For the past five years, Microsoft has been forced to offer first-time Windows users in Europe a choice of web browser. This was a result of an EU ruling in 2009, which found that Microsoft had been unfairly abusing its operating system monopoly to push Internet Explorer into the hands of millions of unwitting, unfortunate users. Now, however, Microsoft is once again free to make Internet Explorer the default web browser in Windows.
Firefox drops Google as global default search provider, switches to Yahoo

For almost the entirety of Firefox's 12-year history, Mozilla -- and thus Firefox -- has been primarily funded by a lucrative deal with Google. Since 2004, Google has been paying Mozilla around $100 million per year -- or about 85% of Mozilla's total income -- to keep Google as the default search provider. Today, that finally changes: Google is out and Yahoo is in.

(Telecompaper) Yahoo has signed a 5-year partnership agreement with Mozilla to make Yahoo the default search experience on Firefox across mobile and desktop in the US. Yahoo expects the partnership with Mozilla to help it expand its reach in search and strengthen its cooperation with Mozilla in search, communications, and digital content. Yahoo and Mozilla will also collaborate on future product integrations and expansion into international markets.
