Hillstead to receive builder award from chamber

Weyburn businessman Ted Hillstead will be the first-ever recipient of the Roger Phillips Chamber Builder Award at the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce's annual ABEX awards in Regina next month. The new award, named for an ABEX founder, longtime chamber board member and former Ipsco CEO Roger Phillips, recognizes "long-term contributions of time, intelligence and leadership in strengthening the chamber of commerce network in the province," the chamber said in a press release Friday.

Space Systems/Loral has opened a massive new thermal vacuum chamber that bombards satellites with the environmental extremes they will face in outer space, including temperatures ranging from negative 292 degrees Farenheit to 212 degrees. SSL, which is owned by Canada's MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates , says the new test chamber is 27 feet wide and 50 feet long, can handle satellites that measure up to 25 feet tall and weigh as much as seven tons.
