Micro Hybrids Could Help Grow Hybrid Sales in Next Couple of Years
2013-05-14 02:03:17| AutomotiveDigest.com - Automotive Industry News
For automakers focusing on hitting 54.5 mpg vehicles by 2025 and for dealers marketing fuel efficient green cars, micro hybridization could be important. Dont let the word micro make you think small vehicles theyre being considered on SUVs, luxury cars, and other segments. Theyre using lithium-ion batteries, many of them 40 volt, to supplement internal combustion engines as hybrids tend to do though this hybrid system will take on additional duties such as offsetting demands from the on board 12-volt battery through another motor/generator. Theyll be making fuel economy improvements in the 15% to 20% range, and should be cost competitive with similar vehicles on the market. Could play a big part in hybrid sales picking up steam. Read more about this technology trend, including what hybrid pioneer Mary Ann Wright, VP Technology and Innovation, Johnson Controls Power Systems, has to say about it.
