Vodacom, Bua Group, Virgin Mobile eye Nigeria's 9mobile - report

(Telecompaper) Bua Group, Virgin Mobile of the UK, Vodacom of South Africa and other investors have expressed an interest in acquiring 9mobile, ThisDay reported.  The Nigerian operator, which recently launched a new logo and brand identity as 9Mobile, is said to be open to new investors willing to invest heavily in such a way that it will have the required amount of money to offset its USD 1.2 billion bank loan. According to the daily, Bua Group, Virgin Mobile and Vodacom, amongst other investors, have indicated their interest in investing in 9Mobile and fully acquiring the telecoms company.

Maroc Telecom cuts FY revenue forecast after 2.8% fall in H1

(Telecompaper) Maroc Telecom group's adjusted net profit increased by 5.7 percent to MAD 2.92 billion in the first six months to 30 June from MAD 2.77 billion in the same period in 2016, thanks to the sharp increase in the net income of the African subsidiaries' activities. Revenues however declined by 2.8 percent to MAD 17.09 billion, primarily due to the deregulation of IP telephony in Morocco and the decrease in call termination rates. Maroc Telecom said it now expects lower underlying revenues in the full year.

Telecom Italia CEO to leave following Vivendi clash - report

(Telecompaper) Telecom Italia (TIM) has announced that its board and remuneration committee is set to meet on 24 July to discuss a "mutual termination" agreement for its current chief executive Flavio Cattaneo. The statement follows a Reuters report in which six unnamed sources said Cattaneo was stepping down after clashing with Vivendi, the French company that controls TIM's board via a 23.9 percent stake. The sources added that Vivendi's chief convergence officer Amos Genish is set to be appointed as the Italian operator's managing director, confirming earlier rumours.

Digi acquires Invitel for EUR 140 mln

(Telecompaper) Romanian operator Digit, which listed on the capital market in Bucharest in May, has bought Hungarian operator Invitel Tavkozlesi for EUR 140 million. The takeover expands Digi's subscriber base by nearly 0.7 million. The shares were bought from China Central and Eastern Europe Investment.

Vodafone keeps outlook as organic service revenue lifts 2.2% in Q1

(Telecompaper) The Vodafone Group gave a trading update for fiscal first quarter to June, showing revenues fell 3.3 percent to EUR 11.5 billion. In Europe, revenues were down 4.8 percent, while elsewhere revenue increased by 1.2 percent. Service revenue declined 4.6 percent (Europe -6.2%, elsewhere +1.3%), but on an organic basis (excluding India) showed an increase of 2.2 percent (Europe +0.8%, elsewhere +7.9%). Ignoring the effect in Europe of regulation, growth would have been at 1.8 percent, Vodafone said.
