This is a permanent position, calling for at least three years experience of AIX in high availability environments. You will be placed on assignment based near Frankfurt in Germany for several years. Candidates should ideally be available to start in March 2015. Our client is responsible for establishing and operating weather forecasting and Earth observation satellite programmes with associated data telemetry and dissemination operations. Vast quantities of data are produced and user communities throughout the world are able to access both current and historical data sets. The demanding realtime environment places much emphasis on adherence to quality and configuration management standards and procedures. The main working language is English. The role will embrace Installation and configuration of operating system and other software, Tuning operating system parameters to optimize performance Planning and performance of hardware and Software upgrades or reconfigurations Monitoring system performance and undertaking corrective actions Ensuring that the operational configuration can be restored, including the definition and performance of backup procedures Liaison with external providers of hardware and system software maintenance Administration and installation of databases and user accounts Support to SW development and maintenance in relation to the utilization of system resources Implementation and maintenance of scripts and procedures where applicable for automated execution of the above activities Generation of technical documentation in relation to system upgrades Provision of standby or oncall support The key experience and attributes sought are On Power Systems AIX 6.1 7.1 On x86 Systems RedHat or SLES On IBM pSeries, Bladecenters very good experience on IBM virtualization, including micropartitioning, LPAR, VIOS Administration and configuration of IBM pSeries, Bladecenters using HMC and AMM high availability software IBM PowerHA IT System design skills Definition, implementation, testing and documentation of endtoend system changes Preparation of technical documentation in English Knowledge of some of the following would be advantageous Cluster File System GPFS The Nagios monitoring tool VMWare Virtualization RAID arrays EMC SAN Brocade Backup and recovery systems Candidates should possess a University degree or equivalent.
