Terma Space operates out of Denmark, The Netherlands, Germany, and the UK. Job description For our customer, EUMETSAT in Darmstadt, Germany, we are seeking an experienced AIX System Engineer. You will work in the Generic Systems and Infrastructure Division Computer and Storage Management team, supporting the different phases of computer system infrastructures. Responsibilities As a member of the Computer Systems Management team, you shall provide support to all Ground Segment Commissioning and Routine Operations. The duties range from the support to the operation of the AIX Linux based ground segment facilities, to the analysis, design, development, testing and maintenance of distributed hardware and system software platforms. This includes the settingup and implementation of maintenance policies and procedures, the support to the procurement of hardware and software, and the coordination with external providers of maintenance services. As an AIX System Engineer you will have to perform the following tasks Installation and configuration of operating system and other software, tuning of operating systems parameters to optimize performance Analysis, planning and performance tuning of Hardware HW and Software SW installations, ensuring compatibility between subsystems Monitoring of the system performance, investigation of HW and system SW problems and performance of the relevant corrective actions Ensuring that in case of HW or system SW failures the operational configuration can be restored, including the definition, maintenance, performance of backup procedures Liaise with the external providers of HW and system SW maintenance for the request and follow up of maintenance interventions Perform administration and installation of databases Administration of user accounts Support to SW development and maintenance on system related matters Implementation and maintenance of scripts andor procedures where applicable for the automated andor controlled execution of the above activities, generation or update of technical documentation in relation to system upgrades Provision of standbyoncall support Provision of support, as required, to critical operations In the performance of the activities you shall apply the relevant change control and maintenance procedures. This is a fulltime position at EUMETSAT in Darmstadt, Germany with a planned starting date in Q1 in 2016 and may include standby and callout support outside normal working hours. Qualifications Competencies In addition to having a university degree in computer science or equivalent, you shall have extensive experience in the administration and troubleshooting of distributed systems. The experience should have been made in an operational or production environment, characterized by custom applications in addition to standard software, running both on the client and server side, and by high availability requirements. You shall have an expert knowledge and a significant work experience of the AIX operating systems, and should be familiar, to the extent required by the performance of the above tasks. Proven knowledge and at least 3 years handson experience with the following is mandatory Power Systems very good experience on operating systems AIX 6.1 7.1 and IBM virtualization, including MicroPartitioning, LPAR, VIOS Administration and configuration of IBM pSeries using HMC and AMM IT System design skills Definition, implementation, testing and documentation of endtoend system changes Preparation of technical documentation in English in a complete and clear manner In addition, experience in the installation, administration and troubleshooting on some of the following shall be considered as an advantage Distributed File System GPFS High availability software IBM PowerHA PowerVC Experience with the monitoring tools based on Nagios VMWare Virtualization It is also an advantage if you can carry out basic hardware support like installing interface cards or physically setting up networks. The variety of the tasks and the scope of the systems to be supported require a high degree of autonomy and good analytical skills together with the ability to effectively cooperate within the team and with internal customers. Fluency in English spoken and written is mandatory, as English is the working language.
