Apple earnings top expectations thanks to China, iPhone

The Cupertino company reported Monday that it earned $13.6 billion, or $2.33 a share in its fiscal period that ended March 28. In the same period a year earlier, Apple posted a profit of $10.2 billion, or $1.66 a share. Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters were expecting the company to earn $2.16 a share on sales of $56.1 billion.
