For the location in Darmstadt, Germany we are looking for an Archive and Data Services Engineer fm at Eumetsat. Tasks The EUMETSAT Data Centre Archive currently provides ingestion, archiving, cataloguing and retrieval services to the MTP, MSG and EPS Programmes, for the EUMETSAT user community. As a multimission facility, the Archive will be evolved to offer the same services for the MTG Programme taking into account specific MTG Programme needs. This evolution requires support to prepare the Archive to manage the high data volumes and data rates generated by the MTG satellites. In addition to this, suitable formats for delivery of the MTG data and products as well as ondemand User data access services, required e.g for calibration, training or visualisation purposes, need to be enhanced. As a member of the Data Centre Operations Team in the User Support and Climate Services Division, the general task of the Consultant will be the provision of advice and engineering support to the Data Centre Operations Manager in all aspects of work associated with the MTG Programme related to the Operation of the EUMETSAT Data Centre Archive and associated data services. Major tasks of the Consultant will be to provide requirements, documentation and support which are necessary for the required evolutions of the Archive and the related ondemand data access services. The Consultant shall be responsible for the following tasks Support MTG programme reviews with the view to assess their impact on the ondemand Data Access System, which comprises the EUMETSAT Data Centre Archive and other related ondemand User data services where archived data is provided Support the translation of the MTG Programme user requirements into detail system requirements of the ondemand data access services Provide support to the MTG Development Programme covering all aspects of the User Support and Climate Services Division Contribute to the preparation of the MTG Validation and Verification VV activities and commissioning in respect to the data access system. This includes validation of Output formats and performance assessments of the system. Contribute to the definition and enhancement of the end user interfaces for the ondemand data access services, e.g. data access interfaces, delivery mechanisms, product visualisation Enhance and automate the reporting of the Data Centre usage to provide regular and configurable reports of current and future data holdings Support the Climate Data Processing and Satellite Intercalibration activities of the Division and in EUMETSAT by extracting relevant and available metadata from the Archive and making them accessible to users via Web Technologies Represent the User Support and Climate Services Division in relevant meetings and workshops Liaise with the EUMETSAT Format Advisory Group on proposed MTG related delivery formats Essential requirements In addition to having a University degree or equivalent in a relevant Engineering, Computer Science or Science discipline, the Consultant shall have as a prerequisite a demonstrated experience of at least three years in the field of Meteorological Satellite product handling with exposure to UserSystem requirements definition and validation in a satellite data environment. Proven knowledge and handson experience with the following is mandatory A minimum of three years in the field of Earth Observation EO data or metadata handling A minimum of three years experience working with Web Technologies e.g. Java GWT, JQuery etc. Handson experience in shell scripting Experience in the definition validation of system and user requirements Experience in writing test plans and related documentation for validation of the developed systems for operations Ability to translate EO Data Access related requirements into detail system requirements The variety of tasks to be supported require a high degree of autonomy, good analytical skills and good communication skills. Desirable skills Experience with the Meteorological Climate Research User Community Experience of EO data formats e.g., NetCDF, HDF5, BUFR, etc and visualisation of these formats Knowledge of OGC standards and Web Map Services Geographical Information Systems Knowledge of XML technologies for the definition of data format representation Knowledge of meta data standards Knowledge of SQL for extracting Database Information Experience of software testing tools Knowledge of the requirements management tool DOORS Presentation skills for presenting proposed concepts, development status, and results to expert and nonexpert audiences Other Information Fluency in English is mandatory Travel within Europe may be required Must be an EU national or possess a currently valid German Work Residence Permit Foreseen starting date is 01 January 2014 To guarantee that your application is processed, please apply via our website httpwww.scisys.dewhereweworkspacecareersspacejobs.html
