Aurora is an established supplier of skilled manpower to ESA and in particular at ESTEC and ESAC. Aurora has the opportunity to expand our support to ESA in the domain of Earth Observation. Happiness of our employees has proven key to obtaining excellent results and a client who also regards us highly for excellent service. Overview The candidate shall provide engineering support within the Future Missions Division EOPSF of ESAs EOP Directorate. In 2013, ESA received an offer from the National Commission for Space Activities of Argentina CONAE to launch a small satellite with the SAOCOM1b satellite, and to collaborate during the mission exploitation phase. The main SAOCOM1b payload is an Lband polarimetric SAR instrument. This offer, together with previous bistatic SAR mission proposals and science and technical developments during the Earth Explorer BIOMASS mission, provides a unique opportunity to the Earth observation science community and ESA to Demonstrate at global scale the science capabilities of an Lband activepassive satellite constellation through dedicated inorbit experiments. Leverage previous investments in Lband technology and mission studies by ESA and ESA member states. Secure valuable feedback within a short time frame on the scientific potential of Lband SAR mission constellations. The provision of support will follow the developments in the above activities and parallel studies, which mainly consist of the following Planning of L and Cband bistatic SAR missions including mission scenarios definition, mission acquisition optimisation and implications at system level, e.g. regarding operations and ground segment System engineering support at platform, payload and mission level Support to the development of versatile platforms for convoy missions in the range of 500 kg max. with 150 kg payload. A series of 3 specific tasks have been defined Task 1 Mission planning and mission definition Updating and improving the internal mission planning tool. Coordinating inputs from scientific institution and external entities Maximizing by optimisation the scientific acquisition Provide feedback from mission optimisation to the spacecraft and mission design Task 2 Support to system engineering including a proactive role in the definition of payloadplatformlauncher interfaces Maintain and crosscheck all systems budgets. Coordinate, maintain and secure coherent interfaces between payloadplatform and launcher Maintain relevant requirements Perform system level analysis and designs Maintain and followup resolution of actions at system level derived from industrial contracts Coordinate technical inputs from external entities, outputs from industrial contracts and ESA internal support Review tasks in the framework of industrial activities Task 3 Support in the definition of a generic 500 kgclass platform Maintain and crosscheck system track all platform systems budgets. Coordinate, maintain and secure the definition of a set of interfaces between payloadplatform and launcher Maintain relevant platform requirements Perform system level analysis and designs Coordinate technical inputs from external entities, outputs from industrial contracts and ESA internal support Review tasks in the framework of industrial activities Perform configuration assessments Perform platform system designs The work is carried out in close cooperation with specialists in the different domains as well as with the scientists andor data users proposing the mission or expected to use its results.
