CHARLTON – It's been more than 40 days since Casella Waste Systems announced to a crowded health board meeting that 21 private wells in Charlton, near the Southbridge landfill, tested positive for pollutants, and residents say they are still waiting for answers. That night, William Gallien, whose home well at 74 H Foote Road was tainted by probable human carcinogen 1,4-dioxane at a level greater than safe drinking water guidelines, asked whether it was safe to bathe and wash dishes in his well water.
