EUMETSAT is now embarking on new and challenging satellite development programmes, shaping its longterm future. Competence Area Manager Atmospheric and Imagery Applications REF. VN1418 In this important position, you will lead the Atmospheric and Imagery Applications team in the Remote Sensing and Products Division within our Technical and Scientific Support Department. This team is the dedicated competence area responsible for the scientific development, maintenance, validation and routine monitoring of stateoftheart remote sensing products to support our geostationary and polar orbiting systems, with particular emphasis on atmospheric motion vectors, clouds and cloud processes cloud detection, cloud classification, precipitation and instability. To this end, you will lead the definition of new or improved meteorological products and analyse functional and processing implications, realise scientific prototype software and reference processors, oversee the validation and evaluation of process chains, and coordinate support activities including anomaly investigations. At the same time, you will obtain feedback from our user community, provide documentation for new and improved scientific algorithms and products and contribute to the preparation of new programmes and evolution of current missions demanding a strong blend of analytical and interpersonal skills. Alongside a degree in Remote Sensing, Meteorology or a relevant discipline, you will bring a sound background in remote sensing physics and radiative transfer in the atmosphere. Equally importantly, you will be skilled in leading and developing teams, preferably in an operational science environment, developing software for relevant applications and administering scientific projects, whilst familiarity with processing meteorological satellite data would be advantageous. Finally, you should be able to work effectively in English and possess a working knowledge of French.
