Copernicus Operations Engineers Telespazio VEGA Deutschland has been supporting the European Space Industry for over 30 years, including ESA, DLR, EUMETSAT and CNES. Telespazio VEGA is looking for a number of experienced Satellite Operations Engineers to complement the existing team providing Copernicus Operations Engineering Support at the European Space Operations Centre, based in Darmstadt, Germany. The CopernicusSentinels constitute the first series of operational satellites responding to the Earth Observation needs of the EUESA Copernicus programme. The Copernicus space component relies on existing and planned space assets as well as on new complementary developments by ESA. In particular, as part of the Copernicus space component, ESA is currently undertaking the development of the Sentinels mission families the Sentinel1 system for the continuation of SAR operational applications the Sentinel2 system, providing global systematic high resolution 1020 m optical observations with a high revisit tailored towards the needs of Copernicus land services and Copernicus emergency services For further information refer to httpsentinel.esa.int These are opportunities for experienced Engineers to work in the domain of satellite operations operations preparations in DarmstadtGermany fully on customer side ESOC. The positions are permanent and starting date will be May 2015. Submission deadline for applications will be 12.03.2015. RESPONSIBILITIESDUTIES The initial assignment shall be either to the Sentinel1 or Sentinel2 mission. The successful candidates shall have demonstrated experience in one or more of the following domains AOCS Data Handling TTC, XBand, SBand OBSM Power Thermal PDHTPDHU Payloads OCP, SAR Multispectral Imagers The Spacecraft Operations Engineer SOE is responsible For the support to the Sentinel missions as a member of the Flight Control Teams FCT during all the operational phases, including special operations i.e. LEOP, Commissioning, deorbiting... For the participation in test campaigns Simulations, SVT, GSV, inflight tests. The SOE position within the Sentinel missions includes the following responsibilities Validation, test and operation of the MCS, including the OBSM and Mission Planning System Validation, test and operation of the Simulator Generation, validation and maintenance of the FOP for the assigned satellite subsystems or Payload Support to test and operation of the NDIUs, PSS and other operational support tools Support for FOS procurement, integration, user acceptance testing and system testing. Review of satellite documentation Maintenance of the FOS spacecraft document library Support for the generation of FOS documentation, i.e. requirements, ICDs, test plansreports etc. Support to FCT training activities including generation of training material Support to spacecraft and ground segment AR resolution Support to the preparation and execution of the Satellite Validation Test SVT campaign LEOP support responsible for the assigned satellite subsystems or Payload Commissioning support for the assigned satellite subsystems or Payload Routine Phase operational support including o Responsible for the assigned satellite subsystems o The performance of Mission Planning operations, o The preparation and execution of orbit control manoeuvres and any other daily and weekly operations activities. o Support to the oncall SOE rota, maintaining the mission history log and the generation of regular operations reports. o Support to Secure commanding operations QUALIFICATIONSEXPERIENCE University or similar degree in aerospace, electronics or physics Minimum of 2 years experiences with operational aspects of satellites. GENERIC SKILLS Fluent in the English language oral and written to ensure efficient communication, especially during critical operations Autonomy in writing related technical notes, specifications and reports in English, as applicable and required within the tasks associated to each Domain of expertise. Good interpersonal skills and team spirit to be able to efficiently react in emergency situation Familiarity with effective teamwork principles and team building aspects A proactive attitude towards problem solving and the ability to achieve solutions as required Previous working experience in a multinational environment is desirable Very good knowledge of standard office tools, including word editors, spread sheet and presentation tools BENEFITS Competitive salary plus a comprehensive benefits package including 30 days holiday, generous training possibilities and Telespazio VEGA Deutschland pension scheme is offered to the successful candidate.
