Description The main tasks of the Team are to ensure an effective and userdriven service to support the provision of data, both realtime and archived, as well as to provide comprehensive technical information to handle all forms of user enquiries relating both to current operational services and to future satellite programmes of EUMETSAT. The Team shall be divided into two subteams, each supporting the routine activities in the two main User Service areas 1. Data Centre Service Team providing help to users ordering Archive data, supporting the Operations of the Archive and supporting the routine generation of Climate Data Records 5 positions 4 Data Centre Operator positions and 1 Data Centre Product Analyst position 2. User Service Helpdesk Team providing a central User Helpdesk to interact with users on a large number of enquiries and providing administrative support in handling user accounts and user service registrations 3 positions Data Centre Operator 4 positions Data Centre computer related tasks Monitoring and controlling all operational processes ensuring that all operations are conducted in accordance with established procedures Monitoring the availability and quality of ingested products Mounting and dismounting of storage media Managing Tape backup activities Maintaining the level of premounted empty media as appropriate for routine operations Maintaining the physical archive Supporting the maintenance of the Technical and User documents Processing of orders for customers Production of hardcopy image prints. General tasks Authorising and managing orders received via the online ordering system, thus keeping archive and retrieval operations running efficiently Preparing and completing all necessary forms for routine daily operations Immediately informing the Data Centre Operations Engineer when an anomaly is detected Taking corrective action as necessary, applying the approved contingency emergency procedures Providing help to users ordering data and providing information on the various types and formats of data and delivery media Fulfilling recording customer interactions including o Conducting all communication with customers via the User Helpdesk o Assigning new users to predefined user groups o Keeping track of customer enquiries orders Packing and dispatching ordered products and mailing literature Coordinating with the responsible personnel for any scheduling required Preparing inputs to operations reports Creating movies loops from series of satellite imagery for PR and training purposes Creating posters for internal and external customers Monitoring the usage of Data Centre consumables such data storage media, printer toner, paper, etc. and organise the ordering of these consumables when needed. As part of routine operations, the following specific tasks shall additionally be performed Preparing and generating routine reports on a weekly, monthly and quarterly basis covering all aspects of Data Centre routine operations Ensuring optimum exploitation of the functions of the archive and identifying any functional deficiencies based on operational experiences Ensuring that the Data Centre performance in handling external and internal customer requests is in accordance with the relevant service level definition Representing the Data Centre in debriefing, planning and scheduling meetings as appropriate. Requirements University Degree in a scientific or technical discipline 3 years of experience in the operation of computer systems, preferably in an operational or realtime environment. 5 years of experience in the operation of computer systems running under the Unix and WindowsNT operating systems. 5 years of experience with using PCs is essential, including familiarity with the use of MS Word, MS Excel spreadsheets and MS Outlook. Fluency in both spoken and written English is mandatory A working knowledge of other languages would be a distinct advantage.
