Director CSIRO Astronomy and Space Science Lead a prestigious group of world leading astronomy facilities nationally Provide scientific vision, leadership and represent the facility internationally Pivotal leadership role within CSIRO Role Overview This exciting leadership opportunity calls for an exceptional collaborative leader who has experience in managing a national facility, strengths in stakeholder engagement and the ability to translate research outcomes through innovation. Key Responsibilities Provide scientific vision, leadership and direction to the business to ensure CSIRO Astronomy and Space Science continues to be a leader scientifically at both national and international levels Develop and implement a strategic capability plan for people, resources and infrastructure ensuring appropriate evolution and matching of capability with science directions Actively manage key external national and international relationships to advance CSIROs interests, science delivery and impact to achieve strategic goals Ensure that the Australia Telescope National Facility is responsive to the scientific goals of the Australian astronomy community, facilitate their engagement in worldleading science. Provide high level representation nationally and internationally of CSIROs Astronomy and Space Science capability including development of major new science initiatives Develop and promote a strong research culture characterised by science excellence, creativity, innovation and flexibility Develop programs that identify key research activities which can be translated to innovative outcomes. Location Sydney, Australia preferred Salary Attractive salary package and benefits offered, relocation included Term 3 years Reference Number 16881 To be successful, you will have Tertiary qualifications in science, engineering or business. A minimum of seven years experience in managing and leading large teams. Demonstrated ability to develop and implement the strategic direction for development of a major science capability. Deep understanding of relevant global science trends and the RD environment generally. Ability to work effectively at a senior leadership level, build collaborative relationships, trust and confidence with stakeholders internally, globally and nationally. Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills. A track record of innovation and outcome delivery. The ability to think critically, identify business issues and make critical decisions. Commitment to excellence, results and people, with a collaborative, nonadversarial style and seasoned commercial and political skills. Leadership skills evidenced by delivery of significant outcomes.
