Location ESRIN, Frascati, Italy Description Earth Observation Security Applications Engineer in the Enterprise Section, Data Applications Division, Science Applications Climate Department, Directorate of Earth Observation Programmes. Duties The postholder will be responsible for building up increased use of civilian EO capabilities in all security domains consistent with the ESA Convention. This will initially include law enforcement environmental crime, crimes against humanity, proliferation, organised crime and terrorism, intelligence analysis, actions addressing fragility, conflict and violence and civilmilitary cooperation in Earth observation. Responsibilities include engaging key stakeholders from the law enforcementsecurity community, identifying opportunities for strategic collaboration at internationalnational level building awareness and acceptance of civilian EO capabilities among law enforcementsecuritysector stakeholders to foster longerterm adoption, consolidating their information requirements identifying and addressing structural impediments to the takeup of civilian EObased productsservices in the law enforcementsecurity domain defining and implementing innovative projects to foster the use of civilian EO in this domain assessing EO science and applications developments data analytics, artificial intelligence, etc. with regard to the exploitation potential for the law enforcementsecurity domain cooperating with other ESA teams involved in industrial innovation, particularly the Lab Invest Office, to address evolving priorities in this domain contributing to ESA communication efforts promoting EO results, mission achievements and EO benefits for society supervising and supporting the work of Young Graduate Trainees, National Trainees and Research Fellows. Technical competencies Experience in the application of satelliteairborne EO with stakeholders from the security domain in Europe Knowledge of European and Global law enforcementsecurity environments Experience in setting up and executing projects involving exploitation of Earth Observation data Behavioural competencies Problem Solving Teamwork Innovation Creativity Education A PhD preferred or Masters level degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline such as engineering, Earth science, computer science, applied physics or data science. Additional requirements Specialist experience of working in the one of the following areas would be an advantage law enforcement, fragile states, civilmilitary cooperation Strong problemsolving skills to deal with daytoday operational challenges Strong results orientation with ability to set priorities and present practical solutions orally and in writing Other information For behavioural competencies expected from ESA staff in general, please refer to the ESA Competency Framework. The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these is required. Knowledge of another Member State language would be an asset.
