Applications from women are encouraged. Post EO System Engineer This post is for a limited duration of 4 years, nonrenewable, and is classified A2A4 on the Coordinated Organisations salary scale. The initial 2 years will be spent on secondment to the European Commission in Brussels, Directorate General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs DG GROW, Directorate Space Policy, Copernicus and Defence. Location ESA Headquarters, Paris, France with resident assignment to Brussels, Belgium, for the first 2 years. For the second half of the contract, the postholder will be located in ESRIN, Frascati, Italy. Description EO System Engineer in the Directorate of Earth Observation Programmes seconded to the European Commission in Brussels, Directorate General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs, Directorate Space Policy, Copernicus and Defence DG GROW. The secondment to DG GROW EC is for an initial period of two years. For the following two years, the postholder will be located in ESRIN in the Future Systems Department. The selected candidate will be required to spend some time training at ESRIN during the secondment and to maintain periodic interaction with teams there and at ESTEC. Duties The duty station for the first two years will be Brussels The postholder will report to a Head of Unit in the Directorate for Space Policy, Copernicus and Defence DG GROW, EC, under the supervision of the Head of the Strategy, Programme and Coordination Office in ESAs Earth Observation Programmes Directorate. The incumbent will support the Commission teams in the preparation, execution and assessment of Copernicusrelated activities. Work areas will include data distribution and access, including developing the future ground segment for the new generation of Copernicus and facilitating data access through data platforms issues related to interoperability requirements at different levels data compatibility as well as interfaces and infrastructure requirements contributing missions and the implementing future databuy schemes to complement Copernicus missions supporting preparation of the Copernicus Space Component LongTerm Scenario LTS and as necessary activities related to Copernicus 2.0 definition and consolidation. The duty station for the second two years will be ESRIN, Frascati Upon transfer to ESRIN, the postholder will report to the Head of the of Department of the Directorate of Earth Observation Programmes. Work areas will include architecture work on ESA Earth observation missions supporting Copernicus Space Component interaction with the Commission and the LTS supporting Copernicus 2.0 implementation. Technical competencies Earth Observation missions and programmes, in particular the Copernicus Space Component Programme both space and ground segments Knowledge of EO endtoend space systems, architecture and of EO technology Knowledge of cloud computing technologies, applied to data processing, archiving and dissemination Basic knowledge of the EO market and policies at European level Knowledge of the European Union institutions Analytical skills Behavioural competencies Communication Planning Organisation Problem Solving Teamwork Ambassadorship Education Applicants should have a Masters degree or similar qualification in Earth observation, information technology, Earth sciences, aerospace or electrical engineering. Additional requirements Solid professional experience in Earth observation, including knowledge of ESAs Directorate of Earth Observation Programmes and EU institutions, would be an asset. A good knowledge of one of these is required. Knowledge of another Member State language would be an asset. The Agency may require applicants to undergo selection tests.
