Job description For our customer, EUMETSAT, we are seeking an experienced software systems Applications Engineer to provide support in the data processing and software system engineering activities for the operational and future programmes within the Data Processing Systems and Applications Competence Area DPSA CA, including processing frameworks. DPSA CA is responsible for the engineering and maintenance of online and offline operational data processing systems. The areas of work in the scope of the DPSA CA activities are the following Creation and maintenance of Data Processing Systems Applications Requirements full lifecycle for Online Data Acceptance, Product Generation, Encoding and Delivery and Offline Analysis and Reporting systems, and including their Reprocessing equivalents as used for Climate Record generation Management of industrial contracts for the development or maintenance of Data Processing Systems and Applications Data Processing Systems Applications interfaces engineering Generation of prototypes and development plans and where relevant their implementation Verification and Validation Generation, maintenance and evolution of Data Processing Systems Applications Maintenance Plans Support in the consolidation and evolution of processes, standards, methodologies, tools, elements, and facilities for data processing of science data for operational and future programmes Implementation of Data Processing Systems Applications maintenance activities Provision of relevant inputs in area of responsibility to the midterm evolution planning for the evolution of operational systems and the implementation of the evolutions Support to projects related to Climate Data Record generation Responsibilities As a member of the Data Processing System Applications and Tools Group, and in particular the Supporting Applications Engineering team, you will maintenance and evolution of LEOGEO data and product processing systems Contribute to the definition, design, implementation and maintenance of architectures for data processing ground segments and their components with special emphasis on product quality control, calibration and validation, production monitoring and reporting Maintenance and development of the Quality Control Facility QCF and Calibration Validation Facility CVF framework software Configuration Management, building and distribution of QCFCVF software releases and patches Contribution to QCFCVF software system design and reengineering Support to the development and implementation of QCF and CVF tools e.g. in IDLCCFortran Support the operations of existing data processing ground segments and their maintenance and evolution e.g. QCF and CVF. This will also include Upgrade software, including implementing and maintaining new algorithms for product quality control and calibrationvalidation activities Perform routine tasks in operational systems under configuration control such as Support the Configuration Management process and the building and distribution of software releases and patches Support to the development, integration and configuration management of software developed by third parties, its installation, and configuration and testing Anomaly investigations, documentation and classification Follow up of the delivery of SW resolutions for these anomalies Perform standard SW engineering activities such as SW testing in a structured approach to verify that delivered SW is fulfilling the requirements or to demonstrate that problems have been corrected SW integration and verification in the EUMETSAT ground segments Being focal point when it comes to integrating each individual facility into a system context, covering all aspects from early software development, definition of interfaces, system integration and testing, and end to end testing of the production system contribute to design and system engineering reengineering activities in the area of expertise for existing and future production systems Settingup and implementation of maintenance policies and procedures Support to the procurement and installation of software, and the coordination with external providers of support services Participation in meetings and formal reviews This is a fulltime position located at EUMETSATs premises in Darmstadt, Germany. The start date is ASAP. Working time is normal working hours. Standby and callout support may be required during certain periods. Travel within Europe may be required for certain activities. Qualifications Competencies Applicants shall have an university degree, in a relevant engineering discipline or other suitable qualification. Essential skills, attributes and expertise are Experience in system design, SW development, operation, maintenance and trouble shooting of large complex realtime data processing systems for Earth Observation missions Very good communication, presentation and team working skills and be able to cope with very high workloads Ability to learn and develop the needed skills and knowledge to contribute to the development of Data Processing applications within the Supporting Application Engineering Team Ability to rapidly absorb, and make use of, information presented in written and oral communications in a dynamic context Willingness to work within a multidisciplinary context in cooperation with other teams. The ability to maintain a system overview is essential A systematic approach to work, be able to plan work and to cope with tight schedules and multiple tasks Capability to write accurate and consistent technical documentation Able to work with a high degree of autonomy and demonstrable good analytical skills CC programming language experience in a UNIXLINUX based environment Use of and application programming of database systems e.g. ORACLE, INFORMIX, PostgreSQL and MySQL Competence in the use of scripting languages e.g., shell scripting, highlevel languages e.g., Python, Java and correspondent using of their libraries fluency in English spoken and written, as English is the working language Desirable skills are Experience with the programming and usage of IDL and Fortran Knowledge of XML and related technologies XPATH, SVG, etc. Experience in Web Programming Knowledge of web technologies, programming and markup languages e.g. Apache, CGI, JavaScript, UMLCompetence in SW testing, unit test suite maintenance, automated testing, verification and validation Experience in system design for quality control and calval systems Familiarity with data formats used for meteorological satellite products Design and implementation of MMI using different toolkits and languages Knowledge of relevant Standards, Quality Assurance and Configuration Management principles and applications Competence in the exploitation of modern hardware and operating systems at the application level e.g. parallel programming pthreads, MPI, OpenMP Competence in objectoriented software design and implementation possibly in the context of satellite instrument data processing systems What can Terma offer At Terma, we consider skilled employees, enthusiasm and job satisfaction as the very foundation of our success and as a prerequisite for the development of the bestinclass solutions that Terma provides.
