This post is classified in the A2A4 grade band of the Coordinated Organisations salary scale. LOCATION ESTEC, Noordwijk Netherlands. DUTIES Within the ESTEC Test Centre Division, the Engineering Services Section is mainly responsible for providing mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and metrology services for the Test Facilities, the customer of the Test Facilities, the ESTEC laboratories and ESA projects. The postholder will report to the Head of the Engineering Services Section. Duties will include designing and developing electromechanical subsystems and instrumentation for the ESTEC Test Centre and for the ESTEC technical laboratories including PCB designmodelling and programming of programmable logical devices defining the requirements, conceptual design, development and qualification of stateoftheart test instrumentation for space environmental measurement with focus on the electrical subsystems including the software interface generating technical requirements and statements of work for the tasks to be performed by industry from early conceptual studies through to full development of hardware contributing to the generation of innovative ideas in the field of test instrumentation and electronic engineering for test applications supporting the operation of test instrumentation and postprocessing of the relevant test data supporting investment and maintenance activities of the Test Centre, troubleshooting and repair of the electrical subsystems and components of the Test Centre facilities performing measurements of electrical standards following methods accredited to ISOIEC 17025 supporting the maintenance of certification and accreditation of the Engineering Services Section participating in ESA project reviews liaising, on technical matters, with users and project groups and other organisational bodies within and outside the Agency, including participating in working groups, conferences and workshops contributing to the diffusion of the results of the activities performed and the transfer of knowledge across the Agency. QUALIFICATIONS Applicants for this post should have a Masters degree or equivalent qualification in electromechanical engineering and at least five years of experience in electronics design. Candidates should be familiar with the mathematical modelling of electronic circuits, sensors and actuators using MATLAB and with the design of command and control systems for electromechanical instrumentation using LabView. Experience in the development and operation of complex instrumentation related to environmental testing for space application is essential. Knowledge of the specific requirements of electrical design and manufacturing is required. Knowledge of space project requirements, i.e. space environment, cleanliness and quality aspects, is required, as well as familiarity with the ISO 9001 certification and ISOIEC 17025 accreditation processes. Previous experience of cooperating with academic institutions and research centres on research activities would be an asset. Applicants should have good interpersonal and communication skills. They should have the ability to work autonomously, effectively and cooperatively in a diverse and international team environment and to define and implement solutions in line with team and individual objectives and project deadlines. In addition, candidates should have good analytical, organisational and reporting skills, a proactive attitude to solving problems and an interest in innovative technologies. The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these two languages is required together with a working knowledge of the other language.
