Tasks and Responsibilities Act as Project focal point with a materials and processes expert role for defined ESA projects, reporting to the Projects Product Assurance and Safety Managers and coordinating with other domains in the Materials and Components Technology Division The holder shall be able to autonomously support project reviews for materials process approval including safety reviews for use on launchers and spacecraft . Familiarity with ESA PA requirements to review and accept RFDs, RFAs etc related to materials processes issues. Carry out Materials and Processes reviews, Materials and Processes Control Boards MPCBs and participate as PA support in ESA Programme reviews. Familiarity with effects of the ground and space environment on materials performance incl. contamination cleanliness aspects is an asset. Support major NonConformances Review Board activities, carry out failure investigations and define laboratory work accordingly. Providing support to the management of RD activities including drafting and reviewing of technical documents.He should be able work independently and have confidence to deal directly with customers, in person or by telephone. Experience and education o University Engineering Degree in Materials Science and significant practical experience in an aerospace or related industry o Strong experience in the RD area and technology development in the field of nonmetallic materials and related manufacturing processes and a good knowledge of materials process technology with a good understanding of physics and chemistry o Knowledge of ProgrammeProject management and control technique, method and tools together with the capability to work independently and have confidence to deal directly with customers, in person or by telephone and to interface with ESA staff in high level positions o Demonstrated ability to analyse and summarise complex information, capability of identifying priority actions and handle high workload. Specific Competence Requirements o Several years of experience in project support activities including material physical and chemical laboratory investigations with particular emphasis on the task descriptions defined above. o Familiarity with relevant ECSS standards and general space product assurance requirements and processes. Candidates must have proficiency in the English language a good knowledge of another member state language is seen to be an asset.
