Position Reference 970 We are currently looking for a Flight DynamicsAttitude determination Engineer to work at ESOC premises in the city of Darmstadt, Germany. Tasks and Activities The scope of work will include Generation of routine attitude products for all interplanetary and Lagrangian missions in routine operations, including e.g. Mars Express, ExoMars TGO and GAIA. Attitude products include e.g. attitude files, solar radiation pressure files and event files. Analysis of the state of the spacecraft for the above missions on each working day, provided that new telemetry is available, including detailed analysis of any suspicious telemetry. Reporting of any anomalies to the Flight Dynamics Attitude Monitoring Subsystem leader, Flight Dynamics Manager and Flight Control Teams. Live telemetry monitoring for interplanetary missions in critical phases e.g. planetary approach, planetary swingby Generation of calibrations of AOCS units, either as per industry procedure, or ad hoc if required by the operational circumstances. Detailed analysis of anomalies or anomalous behaviour, or longterm predictions of circumstances or expected SC behaviour. FD systems development and maintenance Design, implementation, extension and modification of attitude determination tools e.g. telemetry processing and product generation software, as required. Implementation of auxiliary tools and scripts in support of attitude determination tasks. Document review Review of the satellites documentation and its application to FD procedures. Written reports of the results including suggestions for improvement. Participation in the associated formal review process. Launch preparation Integration of the FD attitude tools in the operational platform including the generation of missionspecific procedures. Testing of tools at unit, subsystem and system level. Participation and support to FD system tests. Participation and support to FD system initialisation. Participation and support to ESOCwide simulations. Support to mission readiness tests with the mission control system. LEOP support in the attitude determination domain JUICE, RSP and EUCLID Setup of FD Attitude subsystem for LEOP support, live telemetry monitoring and assessment of spacecraft performance. Generation of attitude products. Calibration of sensors. Oncall support may be required during LEOP periods and for critical operations. Skills and Experience The following skills and experience are mandatory University degree in a relevant engineering field, astronomy, mathematics or physics. Very good skills in linear algebra, in particular for problem solving related to geometry in the Euclidean 3dimensional space. Very good skills in calculus in one or several variables. Skills in numerical methods for equations solving, integration of differential equations, function approximation and interpolation, optimisation, linear algebra problems. Very good skills in classical mechanics, including kinematics and dynamics of point masses, dynamics of rigid bodies, dynamics expressed in noninertial reference frames, e.g. including dynamics in rotating frames, rotation dynamics expressed in body fixed frame, conservation laws in mechanics, gravitational forces and field, orbit dynamics, Keplerian orbits and Kepler laws. Skills to apply above knowledge to develop solutions to technical problems in cooperation with customers and other experts. Very good C programming skills and experience, in particular in objectoriented design and coding skills using C as main programming language. Experience in scripting languages, e.g. python, shell scripting languages. Experience in Linux operating system. Will to take operational responsibility in multidiscipline teams. Coordinate and interact with other service providers in operations and other fields. Ability to work independently. Familiarity with the ESOC environment. Familiarityexperience with Flight Dynamics operations engineering tasks. Experience dealing with external interfaces. Experience with Linux, network services and protocols, and system administration Fluency in English, both written and spoken. The following skills would be highly desirable Being familiar with different representations of rotation in 3D, thus including the representation of SC attitude cosine direction matrix, Euler symmetric parameters quaternions, Eulerangles, .... Ability to solve mechanics problems via analytical mechanics methods e.g. Lagrangian formulation. Knowledge of Fortran 77952003. How to Apply Looking to take your career to the next level?
