Position Reference 970 We are currently looking for a Flight DynamicsTest and validation Engineer to work at ESOC premises in the city of Darmstadt, Germany. Tasks and Activities The scope of work will include Mission support for active spacecraft BepiColombo, MarsExpress, Gaia, ExoMars TGO, SolarOrbiter Running existing procedures on a predefined schedule typically once every one or two weeks during routine operations to validate internal and external products. Support recovery from contingency situations under highstress timeconstrained conditions. This requires indepth knowledge of the AOCS of the spacecraft, as well as the missionspecific and generic TVA software and tools. As well as indepth knowledge of the processes of the supported subsystems Attitude Monitoring and Command Generartion. Participation in regular and adhoc meetings to support nominal and contingency operations. Preparation for new mission phases, including software updates, new software development, writingmaintaining procedures, and participating in validation campaigns. Launch preparation for upcoming missions ExoMars RSP, Euclid, JUICE Familiarization with the spacecraft, in particular in terms of AOCS, using the spacecraft user manual. Configure existing generic TVA software to support validation of the command and attitude FD systems. Expand existing software, including unit andor regression tests, as necessary to support the new mission and to support validation of the command and attitude FD systems. Develop new software, including regression tests and documentation, required to support validation of the command and attitude FD systems. Singletesting parts of the command and attitude FD systems, and documenting these tests and their results. Define and write procedures in terms of documents, and semiautomated scripts to execute the procedures. Participation in FD system initialization, and system test campaigns. In addition to the routine products, this includes validation of the operational FD database, a 3D model of the spacecraft, etc. Provision of simulated SC data telemetry for FD subsystem and system tests and the required tools for modelling. Provision of input data for the operational simulator and support to the SimOfficer in the definition of contingency scenarios. Participation in simulation campaigns. Participation in LEOP and early mission phase. After the early mission phase is over, support for these missions transitions to the type described in point 1 above. Continual integration of software and procedure updates on the operational platform. Oncall support may be required around critical operations. Skills and Experience The following skills and experience are mandatory University degree in a relevant engineering field, astronomy, mathematics or physics. Very good skills in linear algebra, in particular for problem solving related to geometry in the Euclidean 3dimensional space. Very good skills in calculus in one or several variables. Skills in numerical methods for equations solving, integration of differential equations, function approximation and interpolation, optimisation, linear algebra problems. Very good skills in classical mechanics, including kinematics and dynamics of point masses, dynamics of rigid bodies, dynamics expressed in noninertial reference frames, e.g. including dynamics in rotating frames, rotation dynamics expressed in body fixed frame, conservation laws in mechanics, gravitational forces and field, orbit dynamics, Keplerian orbits and Kepler laws. Skills to apply above knowledge to develop solutions to technical problems in cooperation with customers and other experts. Very good C programming skills and experience, in particular in objectoriented design and coding skills using C as main programming language. Experience in scripting languages, e.g. python, shell scripting languages. Experience in Linux operating system. Will to take operational responsibility in multidiscipline teams. Coordinate and interact with other service providers in operations and other fields. Ability to work independently. Familiarity with the ESOC environment. Familiarityexperience with Flight Dynamics operations engineering tasks. Experience dealing with external interfaces. Experience with Linux, network services and protocols, and system administration Fluency in English, both written and spoken. The following skills would be highly desirable Being familiar with different representations of rotation in 3D, thus including the representation of SC attitude cosine direction matrix, Euler symmetric parameters quaternions, Eulerangles, .... Ability to solve mechanics problems via analytical mechanics methods e.g. Lagrangian formulation. Knowledge of Fortran 77952003. How to Apply Looking to take your career to the next level? Interested applicants should submit their CV and Cover Letter to RHEAs Recruitment team at careersrheagroup.com no later than 27082021.
