Position Reference 970 We are currently looking for a Flight DynamicsTrajectory determination Engineer to work at ESOC premises in the city of Darmstadt, Germany. Tasks and Activities The scope of work will include Orbit and manoeuvre analysis with the goal to provide consultancy to the ground segment and ESA project teams of interplanetary and science missions. Launch preparation for e.g. JUICE, RSP and EUCLID Integration of trajectory optimisation tools in the operational platform. Testing of these tools at unit, subsystem and system level. Participation and support to FD wide system tests. Participation and support to the FD systems initialisation. Participation and support to ESOC wide simulations. LEOP support in the trajectory optimisation domain for e.g. JUICE, RSP and EUCLID Setup of the trajectory optimisation subsystem for LEOP support. Assessment of spacecrafts predicted separation state and covariance. Assessment of the launchers performance with an early trajectory optimisation based on launcher provided data andor an early orbit determination. Cruise trajectory optimisation for interplanetary missions, e.g. Solar Orbiter, RSP and Juice. Establishment of longterm reference trajectories for missions including e.g. Mars Express and ExoMars TGO. Routine trajectory optimisation of all interplanetary and lagrangian missions in routine operations, including e.g. Mars Express, ExoMars TGO and GAIA. Trajectory optimisation for interplanetary missions for critical phases such as planetary approaches, planetary swingby, deep space manoeuvres, insertion manoeuvres, etc. for e.g. Bepi Colombo, Solar Orbiter, Juice and RSP. The actual operation of the critical phase may require 0ncall support as well as support during nonnominal working hours. FD systems development and maintenance Extension and modification of trajectory optimisation tools e.g. MANTRA, FAMOS, as required. Implementation and maintenance of auxiliary tools and scripts e.g. PYTHON, mathematica, in support of trajectory optimisation tasks as required. Oncall support may be required during LEOP periods and for critical operations. Skills and Experience The following skills and experience are mandatory University degree in a relevant engineering field, astronomy, mathematics or physics. Very good skills in linear algebra, in particular for problem solving related to geometry in the Euclidean 3dimensional space. Very good skills in calculus in one or several variables. Skills in numerical methods for equations solving, integration of differential equations, function approximation and interpolation, optimisation, linear algebra problems. Very good skills in classical mechanics, including kinematics and dynamics of point masses, dynamics of rigid bodies, dynamics expressed in noninertial reference frames, e.g. including dynamics in rotating frames, rotation dynamics expressed in body fixed frame, conservation laws in mechanics, gravitational forces and field, orbit dynamics, Keplerian orbits and Kepler laws. Skills to apply above knowledge to develop solutions to technical problems in cooperation with customers and other experts. Very good C programming skills and experience, in particular in objectoriented design and coding skills using C as main programming language. Experience in scripting languages, e.g. python, shell scripting languages. Experience in Linux operating system. Will to take operational responsibility in multidiscipline teams. Coordinate and interact with other service providers in operations and other fields. Ability to work independently. Familiarity with the ESOC environment. Familiarityexperience with Flight Dynamics operations engineering tasks. Experience dealing with external interfaces. Experience with Linux, network services and protocols, and system administration Fluency in English, both written and spoken. The following skills would be highly desirable Being familiar with different representations of rotation in 3D, thus including the representation of SC attitude cosine direction matrix, Euler symmetric parameters quaternions, Eulerangles, .... Ability to solve mechanics problems via analytical mechanics methods e.g. Lagrangian formulation. Knowledge of Fortran 77952003. How to Apply Looking to take your career to the next level?
