Description of the job Due to organic growth and new projects, we are looking for a Guidance Navigation and Control GNC Robotics team leader within Airbus Defence and Space in Stevenage. You will be joining the AOCSGNC Flight Dynamics department and looking after a small team of approx. 10 Engineers. The department provides the AOCSGNC engineering design, analysis and support to a number of large European Space Agency ESA and UK projects being conducted at Airbus DS in Stevenage, including Solar Orbiter observing the Suns heliosphere and solar wind and ExoMars Rover a mission to land and operate an autonomous rover vehicle on Mars. The department also leads a number of technology RD and future mission studies both internal and external in the areas of advanced GNC and Robotics. As the Team Leader, you will work closely with the Head of the Department and will contribute to the successful On Quality On Time On Cost OQOTOC GNC Robotics activities encompassing all spacecraft lifecycle RD, Phase AB1, Phase B2CD. This role comes with travel a couple of times a year. Tasks accountabilities People management Communication Responsible to flow down information from higher management. Facilitate communication within the team e.g. via regular team get together and across other teams. Coach and Develop Understand peoples aspiration. Foster technical and professional development of the team. Manage goals, organise and carry out appraisals, ensure everyone receives regular feedback. Training together with each team members, define development plan and validate training. Conflict resolution Identify ConflictIssues before they materialise, Address them when they happen. Recruitment together with HoD identify need for Personnel, and raise Request for Personnel, organise interviews, and key stakeholders in selection process. Business needs together with HoD Understand and collect business needs, get feedback from managers e.g. via meetings with Project managers, Engineering managers, or Functional Avionics lead. RD and strategic plans together with HoD the team leader actively contributes to the RD and strategic plans, in order to prepare future internal and external RDT activities. The team leader liaises with the RD coordinator to support proposal work execution. Area managers support Support Work Area Managers from the team in updating costschedule but also Risks and Opportunities. Attend to costschedule meetings with Project. Workload together with HoD Support HoD in workload estimation and allocation of tasks. Tasks support Support individuals in task execution coaching. When relevant, ensure link with process owners and focal points for the discipline. Foster reuse. Support transnational organisation Ensure link with other teams in Transnational organisation is established. Contribute to transnational workshops when required. Quality and Process ReviewAdherence Act as gatekeeper for output quality and support Process and Product ownersFocal points in ensuring process adherence and product policy application on projects. Support Process and Product Owners and Focal points for the discipline. Staying aware of process evolutions and participate in process reviews when needed. This job requires an awareness of any potential compliance risks and a commitment to act with integrity, as the foundation for the Companys success, reputation and sustainable growth. Required skills Previous Work Area Manager experience or similar Work Package management, i.e. including Technical but also Cost Schedule management Solid background in GNC systems, with relevant previous experiences in aeronautical or defence industry Strong ability to communicate and persuade Passionate about supporting and guiding your team to reach their potential and to meet the requirements of the business Rigor in a changing context Synthesis Engagement Many of our staff work flexibly in many different ways, including parttime.
