Job description For our customer, EUMETSAT in Darmstadt, Germany, we are seeking for two experienced Ground Segment System Engineers. EUMETSAT is an intergovernmental public sector organisation created in 1986 through an international Convention. EUMETSAT has a number of European Member States and Cooperating States. You will work in a department which provides support to operations of existing satellite systems and to the development of new programmes. The position includes system engineering for major evolutions of the operational ground segment, the maintenance of related system level architectural design documents and Interface Control Documents as well as supporting ground segment Integration, Verification Validation IV V activities at the level of test plan definition, test specification and test coordination. Your responsibilities will initial cover the system and interfaces engineering activities in support to the routine operations of the existing MTP, MSG, EPS and Jason23 operational programmes. The duties will then gradually evolve to provide also support to the future programmes,such as Meteosat Third Generation MTG, EPS Second Generation EPS SG, Sentinels and others, in the area of ground segment system engineering and, in particular, interfaces definition. Responsibilities As a member of the Ground Segment System Engineering Team, you will contribute to maintain the overall system design documentation of the operational systems. When evolutions of the systems are proposed and implemented, you will analyze them and verify the system and interfaces coherence. Typical activities to be undertaken are Coordinate the maintenance, for all the operational ground systems, of a complete and consistent set of System Technical Documentation Perform technical analysis of system architecture and specification evolutions or major upgrades of the operational ground systems, for interfaces coherence and compatibility check with other ongoing developments Define the IVV testing approach for major evolutions of the operational ground systems and contribute to the coordination of the installation, integration and verification of new systems into the Operational infrastructure Contribute to the various OPS TSS Projects and associated reviews, as required, providing System Engineering support during the design phase and contribute actively to the definition of the IVV activities Perform analysis, investigations and resolution of system level anomalies Support the SEP System Engineer on all related activities as requested Support the OPS regular coordination processes, including CRBs and ARBs, as requested. In the role of support to the development of new GEO and LEO programmes, your tasks performed shall include Participate to the definition of the system architecture and interfaces between the multimission elements and the programme specific elements of the ground system In coordination with the system and interface engineers of the future ground segment, ensure that the definition and documentation of new interfaces are compatible with the methodology used in Operations this includes the use of common templates for Interface Control Document and the use of the same tool for maintaining the interfaces data dictionary Provide support to the definition of the IVV approach for the future ground systems. This is a fulltime position with the planned start on 01st January, 2018. You will be nominally based at EUMETSATs facilities in Darmstadt, Germany, but shall be in a position to travel within Europe. Qualifications Competencies Applicants shall have a university degree, in the domain of engineering, science, or other suitable qualification and proven knowledge and experience in the following areas Extensive experience in the analysis of systems applications and modelling At least 5 years demonstrated experience in the field of systems engineering and architectural design Strong background in the use of modelling and design tools in support of architectural design activities e.g. Vitech CORE, Enterprise Architect Sound knowledge of space and ground system engineering processes, and system and software lifecycles and standards Experience in Model Based Systems Engineering methods, techniques and tools Definition, management and traceability of requirements structure with the support of dedicated tools e.g. DOORS Experience in Integration, Verification and Validation IVV of complex system. In addition, proven knowledge and experience in at least two of the following areas is required Satellite monitoring and control systems including Flight Dynamics and SC Simulator aspects Data processing Dissemination Archive systems Ground Station The following experience would be an additional asset Full development cycle of large systems, from the definition of requirements to system design and testing System requirements management and functionalarchitectural modelling, with support of tools e.g. DOORS System architectural design experience in the use of modelling and design tools in support of it will be considered an advantage e.g. Enterprise Architect Configuration Control processes and tools Familiarity with the ECSS standards. You shall be able to fulfil the assigned tasks with a minimum of supervision, have a systematic approach to work, be able to plan your work and cope with tight schedules and multiple tasks. You shall have the capability to write accurate and consistent technical documentation. Good communication skills verbal and written are important. You shall be willing to work in a team of engineers and in cooperation with industry and partner agencies.
