For our activities in EUMETSAT, we are currently seeking an Instrument Data Processing Algorithms Software Engineer required to support Routine Operations phase of the Meteosat Second Generation MSG Programme. In addition, the Instrument Data Processing Algorithms Software Engineer may also support development activities in support of the Meteosat Third Generation MTG and Eumetsat Polar System Second Generation EPSSG Programmes. Tasks The main task of the engineer will be the maintenance and further development of the operational MSG Image Processing Facility IMPF software, in particular, the algorithm and data processing aspects of the IMPF software. In addition, the engineer may also support development activities of the MTG and EPSSG Programmes. Primarily these development activities will focus on the Image Navigation and Registration processing, which is part of the mission instrument data processing. Both online and offline functions development are part of these activities. Typically, the tasks of the engineer will include MSG Operations Support Developing an expert knowledge of the MSG Image Processing System Investigating anomalies in the MSG Image Processing System Specifying modifications to the MSG Image Processing System Implementing modifications to the MSG Image Processing System Verifying and validating modifications to the MSG Image Processing System Updating the design and user documentation for the MSG Image Processing System. MTG Development Support Reviewing, analysing and anomaly investigation of MTG instrument data processing software from procurements Supporting the integration, verification and validation of MTG instrument data processing deliveries Supporting the development of a MTG reference processor at EUMETSAT Prototyping selected instrument data processing algorithms. EPSSG Development Support Reviewing, analysing and anomaly investigation of EPSSG instrument data processingsoftware from procurements Supporting the integration, verification and validation of EPSSG instrument data processing deliveries Prototyping selected instrument data processing algorithms. Qualifications and Requirements Applicants require a University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, such as aerospace engineering, physics or remote sensing, Essential The engineer shall have strong mathematical skills and at least three years recent experience in Implementation of numerical algorithms, ideally in an image processing context Objectoriented system design C programming UNIX. Desirable Realtime image processing of large volumes of data Geometric correction navigation registration of satellite images Radiometric correction calibration of satellite images Performance optimisation of algorithms IDL or MATLAB Integration, verification, and validation of realtime data processing systems Familiarity with ECSS standards, in particular those related to software development. The engineer shall be able to conduct all activities in an orderly and disciplined manner, shall be able to work calmly and correctly under stress and must be able to work with the minimum of supervision. Good communication, presentation and listening skills are an advantage. Fluency in English is mandatory together with good communication skills.
