Lebara to launch OTT video service

2015-06-19 09:00:00| Telecompaper Headlines

(Telecompaper) Lebara announced a new OTT video service at a partner event in London. Lebara's new Play video service will target its traditional audience of immigrants and people of different ethnic backgrounds, offering over 3,000 movies and 150 channels in 13 languages. Subscriptions will cost GBP/EUR 9.99 per month with no fixed contract. A year contract will cost the equivalent of ten months.  The company is also developing its own set-top box for the service, which will be offered at retailers at an introductory price of GBP/EUR 149 including a 12-month subscription. Content partners for the video service include the Tamil channels provider Sun Network, African Movie Channel, African channel Ebony Life, Nigerian channel Silverbird, Nollywood TV and Turkish channel. Developed with SPB TV, Lebara Play will work across smartphones, tablets and computers, with an Android app launched first and iOS following soon. Users will be able to access the service on up to three devices, including two simultaneously, and pick up watching a programme across devices. Lebara plans to roll out the video service gradually, in all markets where it operates. The service will launch first in the UK, Netherlands, Germany and France by the end of June. The rest of Europe will launch over the summer, and other territories worldwide will receive the service by year-end, with an expanding catalogue to include Romanian, Polish, Hindi and other content packages covering 13 languages.
