Thorn SDS is looking for an experienced Engineer to work in our clients MC Support team and to carry out efficiently and safely the maintenance and operation of the Monitoring and Control infrastructure. Specific Requirements Operating Systems The candidate shall have system administration expertise to allow maintenance and operations of Unix systems QNX systems Linux systems Windows systems MC Systems The candidate shall be competent to produce tailoring procedures, or show how they will train to gain this knowledge before end of handover. Station Computer Language the language is described in STC UM AD3 Java script Microsoft Access database Baseband electronic and signal processing The personnel should have some Baseband Electronics knowledge with an understanding of interfacing with ground station equipment. In particular, it is desired to have Familiarity with telemetry and telecommand processors, ranging equipment, digital modems with the understanding of the space link protocol related features implemented therein A knowledge of digital signal processing techniques modulationdemodulation, and codingdecoding Knowledge of time and frequency systems e.g. equipment for time and frequency generation, distribution and synchronisation Knowledge of system performance testing techniques test loops, level plans, bit error rate, frame error rate, etc. Software and communication The personnel shall have the required Software and Communication qualification with an expertise that allows support of all equipment that requires software and involvement in the corresponding equipment hardware. In addition to the specific technical experience required for the role the candidate should also be able to demonstrate the following attributes Able to manage a project from inception to completion Should be familiar with requirements analysis and be able to state and implement specifications for all stages in the life cycle, and execute the work and related documentation in a professional manner Selfstarter, able to work independently and fulfill the assigned tasks with little or no supervision Wellorganised, able toprioritiseand manage several tasks in parallel Teamplayer, able to interface with technical and management personnel Proactive and confident personality with good persuasive skills All candidates must have a University or similar degree in a relevant discipline and have a good command of the English language, be able to communicate by voice with the Operators and the Engineers at the Operations Control Centre and ESTRACK stations and have detailed knowledge of voice procedures used in international communications and by the Agency.
