This post is classified in the A2A4 grade band of the Coordinated Organisations salary scale. LOCATION ESTEC, Noordwijk Netherlands. DUTIES Reporting to the Head of the Microelectronics Section, the postholder will contribute to microelectronics activities related to ApplicationSpecific Integrated Circuit ASIC and Field Programmable Gate Array FPGA development within the Data Systems Division, while supporting related activities for other divisions and projects. The main tasks and responsibilities will include providing technical expertise in the field of semi and fully customdesigned VeryLargeScale Integration VLSI integrated circuits for ESAs spacecraft projects and RD technology activities planning, initiating and supervising contracts with industry for microelectronics development, in coordination with ESA contracts officers reviewing and supporting endtoend development and insystem integration processes for ASICs or FPGAs, assisting in any IC development phases as required supporting the development of ASICs andor FPGAs used inside satellite instruments and the platform avionics systems for various ESA missions belonging to any of its Programme Directorates mainly Earth Observation, Telecommunications, Navigation, Science participating in drafting and scheduling future plans for microelectronics at ESA, taking into consideration past and present development as well as stateoftheart ASIC and FPGA manufacturing processes, design libraries, design tools, packaging and test tools, as applicable to space applications contributing to the dissemination of the results of activities performed and the transfer of knowledge across the Agency. QUALIFICATIONS Applicants for this post should have a Masters degree or equivalent in electronic engineering or physics, with a specialisation in microelectronics. They should have several years experience of endtoend design of complex digital, mixedsignal andor analogue ASICs. Important additional assets are knowledge and experience in the following areas development, licensing and use of Intellectual Property IP cores HWSW codesign and Electronic SystemLevel design of SystemonaChip FPGA design, technology and tools ASIC andor FPGA functional, electrical and environmental testing managing technical contracts with industry and international consortia the space environment, its effects on microelectronics devices and related technology quality standards applied to VLSI ICs for space. Applicants should have good interpersonal and communication skills and be able to work effectively, autonomously and cooperatively in a diverse and international team environment, defining and implementing solutions in line with team and individual objectives, as well as project deadlines. They should also have good analytical, organisational and reporting skills, a proactive attitude to problemsolving and an interest in innovative technologies. For behavioural competencies expected from ESA staff, please refer to the ESA Competency Framework. The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these two languages is required together with a working knowledge of the other language. Knowledge of another member state language is an asset.
