Microsoft offers Indian phone makers Windows free - report
2014-03-13 15:11:00| Telecompaper Headlines
(Telecompaper) Microsoft is waiving the licence fee for its Windows Phone operating system for two Indian phone makers, the Times of India reports citing multiple industry sources familiar with the matter. Microsoft announced last month at the Mobile World Congress that Indian groups Lava and Karbonn will produce Windows Phone devices in the coming months. Both companies already make Android devices using Google's mobile OS, which is free to use. Their Windows Phone devices are likely to hit the market in the next few months. According to the paper, Microsoft has been in talks since last year wit Indian firms about producing affordable devices. Only when it offered the licence free did it reach an agreement. Microsoft declined to comment on the report.
