Location ESTEC, Noordwijk, The Netherlands Description Microwave Engineer in the Radio Frequency Equipment and Technology Section, Radio Frequency Payloads and Technology Division, Radio Frequency Systems and Payloads Office, Electrical Department, Directorate of Technology, Engineering and Quality. The RF Equipment and Technology Section provides functional support to ESA projects and carries out technological research RD in the fields of in the fields of Radio Frequency RF equipment and building blocks, active and passive components, and related design and characterisation tools Duties Reporting to the Head of Section and within the above technical fields, the postholders main tasks and responsibilities will include contributing to the design, development and performance evaluation of RF equipment, subsystems, components and technologies applicable to space and ground segments providing expert technical support and consultancy to ESA projects, programmes and general studies throughout all project phases contributing to the definition of technology development for the Agencys Technology programmes defining technical requirements and statements of work for tasks to be performed by industry, from early conceptual studies to full hardware development initiating and monitoring RD activities covering long and shortterm needs fostering new application areas for multidisciplinary activities, with emphasis on innovative concepts, cuttingedge technologies and system architectures contributing to the developmentuse of Sectionrelated laboratory facilities and analysissimulation tools monitoring applicable scientific and technological trends, collaborating with universities and research institutes to maintain stateoftheart competence within ESA supervising students and trainees for analysis, simulation and development of advanced concepts in the Sections technical domains contributing to the dissemination of the results of the activities performed and the transfer of knowledge across the Agency. Technical competencies General background and specific experience in the technical domains covered by the position Handson hardware experience Experience with the design, development and application of relevant tools and methods Understanding of related technologies, RD trends and the industrial landscape Project support experience in a relevant domain Experience in the preparation of procurement activities for technology development and innovation statements of work, proposal evaluation, etc Experience in the management and monitoring of industrial activities, including participation in reviews Experience with Space Engineering Standards and their preparation and implementation Behavioural competencies Communication Teamwork Customer Focus Innovation Creativity Problem Solving Results Orientation Planning Organisation Education A Masters degree or equivalent qualification in microwave or RF electronic engineering is required. Additional requirements A good background in RFmicrowave equipment and technologies for space applications and several years work experience in these fields is required. A general knowledge of RFmicrowave equipment, building blocks, techniques and technologies is also necessary. A good understanding and experience of passive RF equipment filters, IMUXOMUX, ferrite devices, etc. and related electromagnetic analysis and design tools are required. A good knowledge of one of these is required. Knowledge of another Member State language would be an asset. The Agency may require applicants to undergo selection tests.
