DEIMOS is selecting an engineer to be integrated in the Mission Analysis and Navigation Competence Centre of the Flight Systems Business Unit. The work of the Mission Analysis Navigation Engineer Competence Centre is oriented to supporting the design of space missions from a mission engineering point of view mostly for ESA, design software tools for mission analysis studies and do research in celestial mechanics and astrodynamics. As a matter of reference, current DEIMOS activities comprise Interplanetary missions planets, astronomy, minor bodies, etc. Earth and lunar missions Planetary Defense Formation flying Autonomous inorbit rendezvous Space transportation systems and reentry vehicles Planetary entry, descent and landing Functional engineering simulators FES to support the GNC design process, and realtime testbenches RTTB for realtime performance assessment The following types of responsibilities are envisioned Modelling and simulation of space systems, including space environment and space vehicle dynamics Support to mission analysis design for interplanetary missions Development of software tools in support to mission analysis actions Performance of navigation assessments based on traditional radiometric measurements or optical measurements Development of software for navigation purposes Play an active role in fostering the consolidation of the engineering processes and promoting technology research, innovation and development actions Education Required a recognized engineering degree aerospace, electrical, control, computer science engineering or similar Desired postgraduate studies e.g. M.Sc. on aerospace, simulation or software engineering Professional Experience Engineer with 1 or 2 years involvement in the domains relevant to the post Technical Requirements The following skills are required for the post Classical mechanics theoretical background High knowledge of celestial mechanics and astrodynamics Knowledge of optimisation theory and techniques Knowledge of estimation theory and techniques Programming languages Fortran and MATLAB Software engineering methods and techniques Other skill desired for the post are Other programming languages Java and CC Object oriented programming Use of mission analysis COTS GMAT, STK, etc. Language Skills Good level of English, spoken as well as written
