Space Applications Services performs and supports system and software engineering for the European Space Agency ESA, National Space Agencies and the aerospace industry. We are involved in international manned unmanned spacecraft programmes, earth observation, science, exploration, communications and related technology development. We require staff, wishing to join our team to work in a dynamic international environment for the following position Mission Science Office Scientist mf ENGSERVMSO201501 Tasks and Responsibilities The position covers activities in support of the ESA Human Space Operations HSO Directorate, in support of the Mission Science Office MSO as part of the Columbus Operations division. The work will be at the European Space Research and Technology Centre ESTEC at Noordwijk, The Netherlands, and requires a resultoriented and proactive approach to work in a highly complex project environment as well as a strong capacity for planning and organizing tasks. The ESA Mission Science Office support tasks will include Acting as operational interface to the newly created Science Department. Definition of science Utilisation complements per ISS Increment pairs. Tracking of associated Utilisation resources and providing related prioritization recommendations. Mission science representation in ESA ISS Mission Management and related utilization perspective advice and prioritization. Monitoring of implementation preparation of experiments with regards to increment requirements set from mission science perspective. Mission science console manning and 247 support. Tracking of and reporting on mission science accomplishments. Qualifications and Experience Applicants should have a comprehensive scientific background in a relevant discipline Biology, Medicine, Physics, Chemistry coupled with a proactive approach to support teams of scientists in the implementation of their experimental projects. Candidates are required to have following skills PhD or Msc Engineering degree in one of the Physical or Life sciences disciplines. Experience in space engineering or space operations would be an asset. Ability to successfully interface with scientists, industrialists and programme responsible functions. Ability to act with a high and continuous sciencemindset approach. A good knowledge of English is required.
