Multi Mission Infrastructure Engineer based at EUMETSAT, Darmstadt, Germany Job Description For our activities in EUMETSAT, we are currently seeking a Multi Mission Infrastructure Engineer to work within the System Engineering and Projects Division. The MultiMissions Elements are a set of facilities, tools and infrastructure that are operationally used by the existing programmes and will be upgraded to fulfil the needs of the future programmes. These include, among others, the UMARF Unified Meteorological Archive Retrieval facility, the Dissemination facility, a set of monitoring tools GEMS, SMART and common Infrastructure elements like building and power aspects, the MultiMission network and the SNI Storage Network Infrastructure that provides a backbone of storage services to multiple facilities unified under a management framework. The position will be covering the engineering aspects of the design and development activities of the Infrastructure MultiMission Elements MME Infrastructure for the EPSSG and MTG Ground Segment. In this context, the MME Infrastructure covers aspects such as Power Cooling supply, operational rooms and racks layout, equipment racking and cabling, Comms Network, Storage Area Network infrastructure. The Engineer shall work in the MME Systems Upgrade Projects Teams supporting programmes and Multi Missions Elements upgrades. The Engineer will report to the MME Systems Upgrade Projects Manager in the System Engineering and Projects Division. The tasks of the Engineer will include 1 Analysis of Ground Segment requirements 2 Generation of the Programme requirements on the Infrastructure MultiMission Elements and contribute to the definition of the design specification for the Infrastructure MultiMission Elements 3 Definition of the system architecture and interfaces between the Infrastructure MultiMission Elements and the other elements of the Programme ground segment 4 Performing engineering budgets and changes analysis 5 Contribution to the generation of System Design Documents, Design Justification Documents and Interface Control Documents 6 Generation and maintenance of infrastructure drawings for room layout and rack layout 7 Support to the definition of the AIV approach for the Infrastructure MultiMission Elements, including the generation of Test Plan and Test Procedures 8 Participation to Programme projects reviews SRR for Ground Segment, PDR, CDR, etc 9 Maintain the baseline Requirements Specifications of Infrastructure, covering the building infrastructure 10Participation in any necessary meetings and reviews 11Coordination of infrastructure activities, and reporting of status and actions. In performance of these tasks, the consultant shall apply the EUMETSAT configuration and change control procedures as well as the relevant system engineering standards, quality management procedures and maintenance procedures. Qualifications and Requirements The candidate shall have a University degree or equivalent in the domain of engineering and have at last 5 years working experience in the field of building infrastructure. Essential The applicants shall have the following minimum requirements Full development cycle of Infrastructure, from the definition of requirements to design and testing Infrastructure EngineeringAIT experience for the development of major upgradesnew ground systems in a 247 operational environment Planning of room and rack layout, also with support of DCIM Data Centre Infrastructure Management tools Interrooms and interbuildings data connection techniques Racks physical installation, cable laying and equipment installation and tetsing Electrical power distribution and computer room cooling infrastructure Technical Drawing software packages i.e. MS Visio and DCIM tools. Desirable It would be a distinct advantage for the applicants to have experience with some of the following Definition, management and traceability of requirements structure with the support of dedicated tools e.g. DOORS Configuration Control processes and tools Familiarity with the Security and Safety standards e.g. VDE Server rooms layout design, with optimal occupation of space for racks and efficient usage of resources power and cooling Cisco network and security equipment and architectures Timing systems GPS receivers, NTP servers Voice Loop Systems Enterprise environment with local and distributed networks LANs and WANs Experience with SAN equipment and architecture. The Engineer shall be able to conduct all activities in an orderly and disciplined manner, work calmly and correctly under stress and must be able to work with the minimum of supervision within the team. Due to the nature of the position, the Engineer shall have good interpersonal skills and a proactive attitude with a strong ability to work effectively in a diverse team environment. The main working hours are Monday Thursday from 0830 to 1715 and Friday from 0830 to 1600. For limited periods, the engineer may be requested to work in shift to perform some of the tasks described above. The official languages of EUMETSAT are English and French. The working language for the position is English and therefore the engineer must be able to work effectively in this language and have knowledge of the other. However, for this position, a good knowledge of written and spoken German is an advantage.
