For the location in Darmstadt Germany we are looking for a Optical ElectroOptics Engineer fm Tasks Definition and monitoring of development, implementation and maintenance contracts as well as internal studies related to a Optical space communication b Passive and active observation of space objects c Electrooptical, and Frequency and Timing subsystems for groundstation use, incl. Optical Atomic Clocks In particular the work encompasses the following specific tasks Definition of specifications for the development, procurement, validation and deployment of optical ground stations and related subsystems for optical space communications from satellites in various orbits Definition of specifications for the development, procurement, validation and deployment of optical ground stations and related subsystems for passive and active observation of space objects including laser, detector, and signal processing technologies Definition of specifications for the development, procurement, validation and integration of optical, electrooptical, but also RF subsystems for use in the ground station environment. Specific examples are in particular frequency and timing systems including atomic and optical clocks Technical management under ESA responsibility of related industrial study, development, and procurement activities s contracts team Engineering support to integration, testing, maintenance, and operations, of developed equipment and systems in ESA facilities within the area of expertise, incl. the participation in test campaigns on industrys premises and Ground Segment Reference Facility Support of the Section in related internal studies and preparation of Technical Development Activities TDA. Essential requirements University degree in Physics or Optical ElectroOptial engineering with proven solid educational and practical experience in the design and testing of optical andor electrooptical systems. Experience related to space missions on the one hand and knowledge of Image signalprocessing techniques on the other hand, as well as frequency and timing, is an asset. Particular areas can include Good MCS knowledge Good SIM knowledge Optical telescope system design and modelling knowledge of optical component manufacturing techniques and tolerances Optical systems assembly and integration alignment in particular Optical characterization metrology, stray light, imaging performance Focal plane definition, selection, specification and characterization Modulation and detection techniques optical link budget calculations Image processing and signal processing techniques Coherent techniques interferometry, spectral techniques passive and tunable filters Atmospheric propagation effects, atmospheric characterization instrumentation, wavefront correction techniques Laser systems Frequency and Timing technology optical atomic clocks Other Information Start date January 2016 Fluency in English is mandatory
