The Operations group is responsible for the operation of the entire CERN accelerator complex, which currently consists of two Linacs, five synchrotrons and five experimental areas. Functions As member of the PS operations team, you will Be part of the 247 shift team that runs CERNs accelerator complex. Oversee the operation of the PS accelerator and the associated Experimental Facilities on a shift basis, ensuring that scheduling and experimental requirements are met while ensuring the application of safety rules. Work closely with accelerator physicists and setup and optimize the accelerator operation and prepare or participate in tests and commission of new particle beams and machine subsystems. Outside periods of accelerator operation, assist the technical infrastructure team with the operation of CERNs technical infrastructure, if required. Outside periods of shifts, and after a training period, take responsibility for software or hardware related development, maintenance andor installation work for one or more of the accelerators in the complex, either under the supervision of an engineer within the OP group or within the framework of a specialized equipment group in the department. Qualification required Bachelor in the field of physics, computing, electronics, electricity or electromechanics, or equivalent. Experience and competencies The experience required for this post is Initial work experience in a technical or scientific environment. Demonstrated experience in the field of physics, computing, electronics, electricity or electromechanics. The following would be an advantage Knowledge and experience in the field of software engineering in a modern development language environment e.g. JAVA. Experience in the field of or accelerator operation andor accelerator related hardware e.g. measurement devices, power converter techniques, vacuum equipment, PLCs, work in controlled radiation areas, etc.. Experience in supervising people. The technical competencies required for this post are Accelerator operation. Accelerator performance analysis optimization.
