This vacancy note concerns an onsite consulting position at EUMETSAT in Darmstadt, Germany. Satellite Imager Offline Tool Development Engineer 2013007 Job Description We are looking for a Satellite Imager Tool developer for our client EUMETSAT. You shall support the Image Navigation, Registration and Calibration INRC team that provides support for the MSG, Sentinel3, MTG and EPSSG programme in the area of INR, geometrical algorithm processing, and radiometric calibration. Your main tasks will be to design, develop, verify, and maintain software tools dedicated to the analysis and monitoring of the level 1 data quality and radiometric calibration. This includes also support in usage of the tools and the further evolution of the developed tools andor tools already existing at EUMETSAT. Throughout these phases, documentation is a key activity. The initial focus will be for the level 1 products from the Sentinel3 AB satellites, MTGI1, and EPSSG A, but may imply a support for some MSG products as well. Your tasks will include but not be limited to Design, Development and Evolution Establish andor critically analyse requirements of offline tools needed for commissioning testing tasks and routine monitoring Specification of algorithms for offline tools Specification of software requirements for offline tools Software design, coding and testing of offline tools Integration of the offline tools into a framework Documentation related to offline tools development such as requirements definition, Algorithm Theoretical Baseline Documentation, Input Output Data Definition Documentation Test Data Generation Establish andor critically analyse requirements for test data generation Specification of algorithms for test data generation Specification of software requirements for test data generation Software design, coding and testing of test data generation Production of test data Documentation related to test data generation such as requirements definition, Algorithm Theoretical Baseline Documentation, Input Output Data Definition Documentation. Verification Verification and Validation of the tools and generated test data Documentation related to offline tools test and generated VV test data Maintenance, usage and evolution of tools Maintenance of offline tools including anomaly fixing Contribute to calibration and image quality monitoring for imager missions operated by EUMETSAT, i.e. MSG, EPS, and Sentinel3, by operating offline tools, and supporting the analysis and reporting of their results Maintenance support for existing offline Sentinel3 OLCISLSTR Level 1 processors. Contribute to commissioning and CalVal activities of L1 products from MTGI and EPSSG imager instruments by operating offline tools, and supporting the analysis and reporting of their results Identify potential improvements and evolution of the tools, and implement any improvements. Maintain and update documentation as necessary Required Skills and Experience University degree in a relevant discipline such as computer science, engineering, physics or remote sensing Experience in system design, specifications and implementation of software to provide routine processing of large datasets, preferably in the area of satellite remote sensing. Proven knowledge and experience of the following is mandatory A proven high degree of autonomy and good analytical skills Excellent programming skills in Python and CC Engineering skills of UNIX or LINUX based data processing systems, including Requirements specification Design Software maintenance or development Formal software testing System integration Very good technical writing skills, in particular in the area of formal technical documentation e.g. requirements specification and design Global standards for data formats, in particular NetCDF4 or HDF5 Experience in a majority of the following MATLAB JAVA Programming Design, use and maintenance of Relational Databases Software build environments and tools e.g. GCC compilers, make, automake, autoconf, RPM Source code control systems e.g. Git Software anomalies analysis, debugging, profiling, fixing and processing Knowledge of remote sensing methodologies and techniques, including calibration and Level 1 processing Configuration management processes and applications e.g. Dimensions Solid background in basic statistical analysis Desirable Skills and Experience Practical knowledge of processes, phases and documentation related to the development of operational data processing systems in the field of Earth Observations is an additional advantage.
