This position, based near Frankfurt in Germany, calls for experience of the overall systems aspects of satellite instrument chains embracing the space segment and all aspects of the ground segment including data processing and dissemination. Our client is responsible for establishing and operating weather forecasting and Earth observation satellite programmes with associated data telemetry and dissemination operations. Vast quantities of data are produced and user communities throughout the world are able to access both current and historical data sets. The demanding realtime environment places much emphasis on adherence to quality and configuration management standards and procedures. The main working language is English. The role will embrace Identification of contributors to performance radiometric spectral geometric allocation apportionment to elements of instrument chains Definition of approach for performance modelling review of adequacy of related modelling tools Compilation and analysis of endtoend performance budgets, as needed collecting input from space and ground segment studies Definition of overall approach for the development, verification and validation VV of processing chains Identification of implications of processing concepts for system ground segment requirements, architecture and design Identification of required tools and test data for the development and VV of processing chains Support for the development of relevant tools and the generation of required test data sets Validation of processing algorithms and verification of processing chains in the ground segment as relevant for system VV of endtoend instrument chains. Analysis of the implications of instrument calibration concepts for the system and ground segment and specifically for onground data processing Definition of the required infrastructure to perform tuning maintenance of calibration data and to validate generated products Review of system level documentation dealing with requirements, system concepts, architecture and design, technical analyses The key experience and attributes sought are At least 5 years of experience in the engineering of space or ground systems involving Earth observation from space At least 5 years involvement in the development of instruments such as sounders, imagers scatterometers and radiooccultation instruments Good overall knowledge of the instrument platform environment, processing algorithms, and ground segment environments Ability to perform analyses of combined space and ground segments top down and to perform syntheses and compile technical budgets bottom up Familiarity with the development of test tools and the generation of test data sets would be advantageous. Candidates should possess a University degree or equivalent. Fluency in English is essential. This is an assignment with an initial period of 21 months starting in October 2013 with two options to extend for further periods of one year each.
