Airbus Defence and Space is a division of Airbus Group formed by combining the business activities of Cassidian, Astrium and Airbus Military. The new division is Europes number one defence and space enterprise, the second largest space business worldwide and among the top ten global defence enterprises. It employs some 40,000 employees generating revenues of approximately 14 billion per year. A vacancy has arisen for a Senior Instrument Performance Analyst with Airbus Defence and Space in Portsmouth. a As a senior member of the Instrument Systems Engineering team you will be expected to take a lead role in the performance analysis and Calibration Characterisation of spaceborne instruments and related mission systems, primarily for Earth Observation. b The role will involve working on a range of activities, including research and development, proposals, feasibility studies and flight programmes mainly for the European Space Agency. The successful candidate will be subject to security clearance in order to undertake related work in accordance with business needs. The key responsibilities of the role are as follows Derivation of Instrument requirements from top level mission specifications. Performance Analysis of space based instruments and systems Evaluate impacts of lower level test results on predicted inorbit performance. Derive algorithms for performance evaluation of new measurement techniques. Derive systems Calibration and Characterisation concepts and establish performance capabilities. Tradeoff instrument Calibration architectures and techniques. Provide support to analysis of instrument test data. Preparation and delivery of technical presentations to customers. Work package management to performance, schedule and cost. Peer review for studies, projects and proposals. The successful candidate will demonstrate the following skills and experience I Required Experience a Extensive engineering experience in space based radar requirements, b Proven experience in Requirements and Performance Analyses and Design of space based Radar Systems, c Knowledge of Antenna and RF subsystem design, space payload AIV, bid preparation, study management. II JobTechnical Knowledge a Knowledge of Radar Image processing techniques, b Understanding of a project life cycle from prefeasibility to in orbit operation, c Familiarity with relevant applicable technologies radar, digital, RF, antennas., d Mathematical modelling. III Qualifications a Honours Degree in Physics, Electronics, Mathematics or related Engineering discipline, b Desirable MSc or PhD in appropriate subject. IV General a You have the ability to generate innovative solutions and to communicate them effectively to customers, b The role demands a methodical approach to work, flexibility, strong analytical skills, c Good commercial awareness. V IT SkillsTools a PC literate, MS Office, MATLAB, b Expertise in use of modelling tools and software e.g. C, C, MathCAD, Labview c Ability to express physical problems in a mathematical framework and able to create mathematical models in Matlab or similar environments.
