Terma Space operates out of Denmark, The Netherlands, Germany, and the UK. Job description For our customer, EUMETSAT in Darmstadt, Germany, we are seeking an experienced Satellite Operations System Engineer SSOE to support the operations, the engineering and the science to be undertaken as part of the Copernicus Sentinel3 routine operations. The SSOE will be integrated into the Sentinel3 Spacecraft Operations Team, led by the Copernicus Sentinel3 Spacecraft Operations Manager, within the Flight Operations Division of the EUMETSAT Operations and User Services Department. The SSOE will cover all satellite and ground segment elements flight operations and payload data processing operations aspects related to operations engineering for the platform, payload and instrument data handling, instrument parameter and onboard software maintenance, as well as FDIR and operations security aspects for the management of encryption and authentication functions. The SSOE will also participate in coordinating the satellite operations activities of other team members and external teams responsible for onboard software management, simulator support, mission control, mission planning, flight dynamics and ground stations. Furthermore, the SSOE will support system and operations preparation activities for Sentinel3B and for the recurrent mission with respect to their related activities. Responsibilities Your tasks will typically include but are not limited to Support to the routine operations of Sentinel 3A, and preparing for Sentinel3B comprising Provision of operational expertise to all areas of the space and ground segment systems flight operations systems, payload data processing systems, spacecraft platform and payload instrument systems, FDIR, OPS security data handling, onboard software management, onboard control procedures, etc Maintain the operations documentation and flight procedures, including the update and operational validation of procedures Perform trending and performance analysis Investigations into satellite anomalies. This may require a close co operation with the Post launch Support Office PLSO in ESTEC and space industry Support the coordination of partner agency interactions for relevant subsystemsinstruments Participation in the satellite oncall support rota Identification and support to implementation of system and process improvements concerning the Spacecraft Operations Team responsibilities and interfaces Support to the system and operations preparation of sentinel3 C and D satellites Provide inputs and or review the definition of system and satellite operational concepts Review space to ground interface specifications and flight operations manuals Support the definition of tools and processes required to prepare for and operate the satellites Support to the system and operations preparation of other LEO satellites Provide operations preparation support as required to the Sentinel6 development This is a fulltime position with a planned starting date in May 2016. The tasks will be carried out at EUMETSAT facilities in Darmstadt, Germany but occasional travel within Europe may be necessary. You will be required to support operations during normal working hours, as well as support the oncall operations engineer rota, such that safe and efficient operations are ensured by the Spacecraft Operations Team on a 247 basis. Qualifications Competencies In addition to having a University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, you shall have a demonstrated experience in at least two of the following mandatory skills Experience of at least 5 years of Spacecraft Operations on Low Earth Orbit LEO, 3 axis stabilised spacecraft with responsibility for one or more platform subsystems or instruments during operational validation, commissioning or routine operations phases Experience of at least 3 years of SCOS2000 mission control system and use of the MOIS operations preparation tool Demonstrated experience in satellite performance monitoring and reporting aspects including anomaly analysis and solving in liaison with satellite industry, procedure change control and configuration management processes Experience in the operation or development of satellite ground segment facilities, in particular procedure development, monitor and control, mission planning, onboard software management, performance analysis, configuration management and simulator facilities Furthermore, it would be a distinct advantage to have experience with some of the following Specification of system and operational concepts, facility requirements Familiarity with OnBoard Control Procedure and OnBoard Position Scheduler concepts Familiarity with the ECSS Packet Utilisation Standard, customisation and usage Familiarity with system change control and configuration management procedures Data analysis software packages such as MATLAB File parsing languages such as PERL, A WK Use of VBA for development of adhoc tools in MS Office applications You should be selfmotivated and able to work in an organised and efficient manner with minimum supervision. Strong data analysis, processing and synthesis skills are essential and an ability to recognise opportunities for improvements in areas of work and implement appropriate solutions is highly desirable. The working language for the position is English and therefore the youvmust be able to work effectively in this language. Good communication skills would be also an advantage.
