Moreover, we actively manage your professional development, training and career progression. For the location in Garching Germany we are looking for a Senior Software Engineer at ESO. Tasks The Pipeline Systems Group of the ESO Science Operations Software Department is developing the VLT and VLTI data reduction pipelines for the operational instruments at La Silla Paranal Observatory. The data reduction pipelines are used in two operational environments, by the ESO Data Flow Operations at Garching, and by the Paranal Science Operations PSO, for the quicklook assessment of data, the healthmonitoring of instruments and detectors, the generation of master calibration data, the reduction of scientific exposures, and data quality control. The work involves the preparation of data reduction procedures for the ESO VLT pipelines The implementation of these parts in ISO C99 with the ESOCPL library for information, see www.eso.orgcpl and www.eso.orgpipelines, The development of EsoReflex scientific workflows www.eso.orgreflex for science grade pipelines Upgrade and maintenance of Jenkins continuous integration system IFU 3D and VLTI Internal Data Products IDPs Creation of pipeline deliveries within package managers RPM and Macports Update the MIME pipeline for public release Maintenance of the Scisoft Software Collection distribution Essential requirements The ideal candidate is a software engineer with the following expertise Experience and sufficient expertise minimum of 3 years in developing astronomical data reduction applications in ISO C99. Good working knowledge of the scripting language Python and optionally of Perl. Sufficient expertise with SVN, GNU autotools, unit and regression testing. Sufficient knowledge and be familiar with the Linux environment, with the continuous integration tool Jenkins, and with packaging for installation of systems such as RPM and MacPorts. Support in any maintenance and development effort, contributing to the entire software lifecycle, from analysis to design, coding, documentation and testing, to deployment and maintenance. Ability to operate independently and meet the agreed deadlines. Sufficient expertise of image and signal processing methods, as well as statistical handling of scientific data. Very good oral and written communication skills Flexibility customer orientation and amiliarity with international projects Strong sense for quality development. Desirable requirements It would be an advantage to have the following Knowledge of writing data reduction recipes based on CPL. Experience with the ESO Reflex environment. Knowledge of astronomical data reduction methods and observational techniques. Experience with virtualization such as virtual machines, VMWare, VirtualBox, or vagrant.
