Senior Software Engineer 2year fixed term contract Ref SES0630 Region Europe Location Luxembourg Betzdorf Company SES Category IT Software Development Position Staff Published 20150713 Context SES TechCom Services S.A. is a Luxembourgbased subsidiary of SES. Levering on the technical expertise accumulated within the Group by operating satellites for 30 years, it provides technical services to the Satellite Industry on a worldwide basis. SES Techcom Services has currently a need for resources to support the design, development, testing and delivery of the EDRS Mission Operation Center MOC based in Redu. The role includes complex issue resolution, coordinating information requests from other departments, and working with external parties About EDRS The objectives of the European Data Relay Satellite System EDRS initiative is to improve the quality of the data service and thereby enhance the operational reliability and independence of European and Canadian space infrastructures. The improvement in the quality of the data service is to be provided by a space based data relay system supporting data links between user spacecraft in low earth orbit LEO and user ground stations. In particular, the services offered by earth observation missions will be upgraded considerably since the EDRS will enable such missions to offer near real time access to data for example for disaster relief and security applications without being subject to geographical or weather constraints. Today space based data relay services are not offered on a commercial basis and are available only for institutional use to a few nations in the world. The EDRS will make space based data relay services available to European and Canadian space projects. The EDRS will use optical and Kaband technology to provide the data links to the user spacecraft. Responsibilities Either support or be responsible for the o Design and implementation of system architecture and development work, including project control functions o Specification, design, implementation, validation and verification of the software systems and networking facilities required for the Mission Operations Centre o Procure equipment, software and services necessary to build the infrastructure at customer premises and manage shipment o Supervise specification, design, and development work necessary for project implementation, including project control functions o Design and implementation of softwarecomputer infrastructure andor modifications to comply with specific customer requirements such as their standards, interfaces and software and hardware technologies o Interface customer and collect requirements for the setup of budgets, procurements, installation management and the operational handover of systems o Followup of delivered systems during lifetime operations Attract contracts by managing or supporting customer requests for proposal RFP, comprised of activities such proposal team set up and management, technical and financial proposal preparation, and contract negotiation Deliver projects, services to SES customers within budget, specification and on time Awareness and evaluation of relevant technological developments, market trends, competitive factors, customer requirements, standardisation licensing and regulatory aspects Experience Qualifications Have a university degree Telecommunications andor Computer Science, or equivalent Have min.5 years of applicable professional experiences in engineering and implementing of large, reliable, distributed client server applications and communication protocols Excellent knowledge of software specification, design, implementation, verification and validation Excellent knowledge of software and system engineering methodologies using SysML and UML Excellent knowledge of Service Oriented Architectures and in particular JBOSS Excellent programming skills in Java, Python, HTML, and JavaScript Sound knowledge of database management systems in particular PostgreSQL Sound knowledge of network design, deployment and operations Sound knowledge of network with emphasis on TCPIP running over different physical media Knowledge of software practices and standards such as ITIL and ECSS Knowledge of the satellite technologies and satellite based communication is an asset Familiar with workflow management systems and business process modeling based on BPMN 2.0 Proactive approach towards potential andor current customers Have excellent and proven projectbudget and time management experience Knowledge of performance, risk, cost, and schedule analysis Be able to integrate into andor lead crossfunctional andor virtual project teams Have good communication capabilities, analytical sense, innovative spirit, business mind, selfstarting qualities, coordination and priority setting abilities Conflict management skills in a multicultural and interdisciplinary setup Excellent internal and external communication skills as well as teamspirit Ability to work independently with minimal supervision Fluent in English and additional knowledge of another language of the EMEA region Willing to travel internationally, and meet directly with customers and vendors worldwide.
