Space Applications Services performs and supports system and software engineering for the European Space Agency ESA, National Space Agencies and the aerospace industry. We are involved in international manned unmanned spacecraft programmes, earth observation, science, exploration, communications and related technology development. We require staff, wishing to join our team to work in a dynamic international environment for the following position Senior Software Engineer mf ENGSERVSE201432 Tasks and Responsibilities The work will be performed at the headquarters of the European Organisation for Astronomical Research in the Southern Hemisphere ESO in Garching near Munich, Germany. The assignment is to offer support to the Pipeline Systems Department PSD in Directorate of Engineering DoE. You will have the following responsibilities the preparation of data reduction procedures for the ESO VLT pipelines, and the implementation of these parts in ANSIC with the ESOCPL library for information, see www.eso.orgcpl and www.eso.orgpipelines and the HighLevel Data Reduction Library HDRL. maintenance and development of C and Python ETC Web applications for the VLT and VLT Interferometer VLTI. Qualifications, Experience and Skills University degree in Computer Science, Physics, Electrical Engineering or equivalent minimum 3 years experience in developing scientific data processing applications in ANSIC and C good knowledge of processing and statistical handling of scientific data experience in a UnixLinux environment ability to participate in any of the maintenance and development efforts in support of ESOs team, contributing to the entire software lifecycle, from analysis to design, coding, documentation and testing, to deployment and maintenance experience in software development tools version control, development environments, debuggers, profilers excellent command of the English language, very good communication skills ability to interact with the instrument scientists at the operational sites for the specification of data reduction procedures ability to operate, in collaboration with ESOs team and the responsible of the activity, independently and meet the agreed deadlines knowledge of image and signal processing methods as well as astronomical instrumentation and observational techniques and related data reduction methods is desired.
