Job Description ATG Europe is currently looking for a Senior Optical Engineer and an Optical Lead Engineer, specialized in spaceborn instruments, to be deployed as a staff member at our customers location in Munich, Germany. Our client is one of the top players in the European space technology industry offering solutions for satellites, complex scientific instruments and space missions. In this role, you will be responsible for the overall optical design efforts in defining requirements, implementing designs and test methodologies for complex optical systems, mainly for European and German space missions. In your role, you shall closely cooperate with other technical disciplines structural, thermal, mechanical, EO, AIT, systems engineering. Furthermore, you shall be responsible for the technical interface to technical managers, customers and subcontractors within the relevant project. With your experience and expertise, you will be a senior advisor, not only within a certain project, but also for the other optical engineers within the department. You will play a major role in the definition and the development of the optical design processes of the company, including the required tool suite. Tasks and Responsibilities Design, analysis and tolerancing and simulation of, mostly scientific, optical systems from early concept phases up to detailed design Definition and conduction of trade studies to support optical design decisions Coordination of design, development, integration and test activities with other engineering disciplines and technical managers Presentation of the results of the optical design and analyses in internal and external meetings with the customers Definition of technical specifications for optical systems, subsystems and equipment Definition of optical verification strategies Conduction of reviews of subcontractor design Support of internal project reviews Support in the generation of proposal and planning for future projects with focus on optical performance requirements and optical design Definition and development of optical design processes and tools, as well as core competences and enabling technologies. In the lead role, additional tasks like proposal writing, definition of specifications, customer interfacing and coordination of optical activities with other disciplines are equally important to the technical requirements. Requirements University degree or equivalent qualification in optics, physics, engineering or related technical discipline At least 10 years of professional experience Strong knowledge in optics with significant expertise in optical modeling and simulation, especially in the field of telescopes, spectrometers and interferometers over the whole spectral wavelengths range from XRay to SWIR Wideranging experience and advanced knowledge in interfaces and interactions between various aspects of optical systems Significant experience using optical design software e.g. ZEMAX, Code V, ASAP is a must Excellent interpersonal, oral written communication skills combined with the ability to transfer his knowledge to others Ability to work in a multidisciplinary, multicultural and multilanguage team Ability to quickly establish rapport, build trust, and develop excellent working relationships with other team members, customers and vendors Ability to work simultaneously in different projects Processoriented thinking Organized and structured attitude, high degree of motivation and personal identification with the respective task and project Excellent English language skills, both verbal and in writing. Other preferred skills Experience in spaceflight industry, preferably with ESA or DLR projects Knowledge of MATLAB and Python German language skills. Interested?
