Software Build and Release Engineer

This software build and release role is sometimes known as a Software Librarian. It is a permanent position, calling for experience of software build environments and of building, packaging and releasing software and patches. You will be placed on assignment based near Frankfurt in Germany for several years. Candidates should ideally be available to start in August 2014. Our client is responsible for establishing and operating weather forecasting and Earth observation satellite programmes with associated data telemetry and dissemination operations. Vast quantities of data are produced and user communities throughout the world are able to access both current and historical data sets. The demanding realtime environment places much emphasis on adherence to quality and configuration management standards and procedures. The main working language is English. The role will embrace Maintenance and development of software build environments Building, packaging and distribution of software releases and patches Support to programmers with respect to software build and development strategies Supporting the delivery of software externally developed and its installation, configuration and testing Investigation into anomalies, their documentation and classification Analysis of maintenance requirements and identification, procurement or implementation of the tools to fulfil them Interfacing with external contractors providing maintenance services The key experience and attributes sought are Experience in using UnixLinux command line tools Software build environments and tools e.g. autoconfautomake, make, ANT, Maven Source Code control systems, preferably Subversion, CVS or ClearCase Scripting languages e.g. Shell, Perl, TclTk, Python Change management CC Java Knowledge of some of the following would be advantageous Experience with various software packaging formats RPM, PKG, LPP... Basic UNIX system administration Basic Windows system administration Database programming Sybase andor Oracle ECLIPSE or a similar IDE Formalised software testing MSAccess, Visual Basic programming FORTRAN programming Serena Dimensions CM Candidates should possess a University degree or equivalent.
