This post is classified in the A2A4 grade band of the Coordinated Organisations salary scale. LOCATION ESTEC, Noordwijk The Netherlands. DUTIES The postholder will report to the Head of the Flight Software Systems Section. The Sections core activity is to support ESA programmes in developing flight software for satellites and spacecraft. This includes specification, analysis, design, validation and maintenance of the software embedded in the spacecraft platform and payloads. The Section is also the focal point for developing software validation facilities and independent software verification and validation. Duties will include providing specialist technical support to ESA projects for realtime embedded software systems, including flight software and corresponding development and validation facilities participating in evaluating industrial proposals and in project reviews technical monitoring of software development contracts, including verification of industrial outputs, reviews and acceptance providing expert software support to the Avionics System Group for defining onboard avionics concepts and architectures, including highly integrated and reconfigurable systems participating in defining and implementing the research programmes within the Divisions competence, in particular concerning software architectures, validation and modern engineering methodstools to improve the development and qualification processes for embedded software contributing to standardisation activities in the software systems contributing to the dissemination of the results of activities performed and knowledge transfer across the Agency. The postholder may also be called on to support other activities within hisher sphere of competence. QUALIFICATIONS Applicants for this post should have a Masters degree or equivalent qualification in computer science andor electrical engineering or similar, with a background and experience in realtime embedded software systems. Extensive knowledge of modern software engineering and practical experience of the aforementioned systems is required. Knowledge of spacecraft systems engineering would be an advantage. Applicants should have good interpersonal and communication skills. They should be able to work effectively, autonomously and cooperatively in a diverse and international team environment and to define and implement solutions in line with team and individual objectives and project deadlines. In addition, candidates should have good analytical, organisational and reporting skills, a proactive attitude to solving problems and an interest in innovative technologies. The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these two languages is required together with a working knowledge of the other language. Knowledge of another member state language is an asset. CLOSING DATE The closing date for applications is 08 July 2015.
