For the location in Garching Germany we are looking for a Software Engineer ALMA Support Tasks The successful Candidate shall support the ALMA computing team at ESO headquarters. He or she will be assigned to the development, deployment and maintenance of various software tools that support the full life cycle of science operations at the ALMA observatory in Chile and the ALMA Regional Centres in Europe, North America and East Asia. Reporting to the responsible group lead, the Engineer will be assigned to the ongoing development and maintenance of some of these tools initially AQUA and the Project Tracker, following an agile, featuredriven development process. He or she is a is expected to contribute to other activities in support of the ALMA computing team and shall interact with all other ALMA computing groups in Europe, North America and East Asia, as well as with the support staff and astronomer at the ALMA observatory in Chile and the ALMA Regional Centres in Europe, North America and East Asia. Essential requirements University degree in Computer Science, Physics, Electrical Engineering or equivalent At least 3 years of professional experience in software development in Java andor other highlevel objectoriented programming languages Experience in interfacing Java to relational databases within highlevel frameworks JDBC, Hibernate, Spring Experience in developing Java webbased applications servlets, JSPs Experience in developing JavaScript singlepage applications Angular JS, jQuery Experience with modern software engineering practices and tools, including configuration control tools, incremental iterative development, unit and integration testing and the Linux environment Desirable requirements Experience in desktop GUI programming Swing, SWTJFace, JavaFX Familiarity with UnixLinux build tools Makefile, Ant, Maven Other Information Fluency in English is mandatory Occasional short trips to the observatory and other partnership locations 12 weeks are required Start date July 2015
