For the location in Darmstadt, Germany we are looking for a Storage Network and System Administrator fm at Eumetsat. Tasks The Storage Network Infrastructure SNI provides a backbone of storage services to all programs maintained by the Technical and Scientific Support Department TSS, unified under a management framework. It satisfies storage service requirements in terms of size, performance, redundancy, availability, security, supports meteorological archive, data protection and disaster recovery. It consists of a few core subsystems that interact with each other through welldefined and controlled interfaces. The SNI facility belongs to the Generic Systems and Infrastructure Division GSI, responsible of engineering, maintaining and upgrading generic ground segment functions, services, infrastructure and tools in response to requirements of operational and future programmes. Consultancy support is required for Storage Networks and Systems Administration. The Key person shall work in the TSS Department GSI Division team supporting routine operations. As a member of a Storage Network Infrastructure team, the Key person shall provide support to the development and maintenance of storage systems with special focus on archive and retrieval services. The duties include the administration and operation of the central archive systems, maintenance of the external storage, inventory and support to the operation of the storage and computing services. The Key person shall perform the following tasks monitoring of the facility services, computing, storage, backup and archive performance, investigation into HW and SW problems and performance of the relevant corrective actions ensuring that in case of HW or SW failures the operational configuration can be restored, including the definition, maintenance, performance of backuparchive procedures liaison with the external providers of HW and SW maintenance for the request and follow up of maintenance interventions analysis, planning and performance of HW and SW upgrades or reconfigurations, taking care of compatibility issues between computing and storage subsystems implementation and maintenance of scripts andor procedures where applicable for the automated andor controlled execution of the above activities, generation or update of associated technical documentation provision of support to design future evolution of the facility to accommodate the requirements of current and future programs, generation and maintenance of associated documentation provision of standbyoncall support provision of support, as required, to critical operations Essential requirements The Key person shall have, as mandatory, the following experience and background In addition to having a university degree or equivalent, the Key person shall have minimum of 5 years experience in the administration and troubleshooting of distributed storage and computing systems. The experience should have been made in an operational or production environment, characterized by custom applications in addition to standard software, running both on the client and server side, and by high availability requirements. The Key person shall have an expert knowledge and an extensive work experience in the UNIX operating system, Storage Area Networks SAN, BackupArchive technologies and should have experience, to the extent required by the performance of the above tasks, with as many as possible of the following system and software environments UNIX operating systems i.e Solaris, AIX, Linux, virtualization technologies, system administration Highly available environments under SUN, VMware cluster or equivalent Implementation of backup and recovery solutions Symantec NetBackup or equivalent VTL and Data Deduplication technologies High end, automated, tape library systems StorageTek SL8500 series with ACSLS software SAN topology design and implementation, managing Brocade or equivalent switches, EMC or equivalent middle and enterprise storage arrays serving many different types of storage client platform via a virtual layer VPLEX or equivalent Implementation of archive solutions using Hierarchical Storage Management HSM system SAMFS or equivalent SystemService Monitoring using Nagios framework Generation and maintenance of technical documentation in English Desirable skills Experience in the administration and troubleshooting on the following shall be considered as an advantage Administration Perl and PHP scripting Setting up and maintaining security systems, on host, network and storage level e.g. firewalls, SSL, encryption SAN Fabric security PLSQL TCPIP internetworking and the related network protocols and applications, e.g NIS, NFS, DNS, SNMP, FTP Other Information Fluency in English is mandatory Travel within Europe may be necessary Must be an EU national or possess a currently valid German Work Residence Permit Foreseen starting date is 01 January 2014 To guarantee that your application is processed, please apply via our website httpwww.scisys.dewhereweworkspacecareersspacejobs.html
