Summary The ESAC team is forming the Euclid Science Operations Centre SOC, which will build the Science Ground Segment in collaboration with the Euclid Consortium. Objective The Euclid SOC will execute and monitor the sky survey, perform initial processing on the science telemetry stream and provide the Euclid archive. The Euclid SOC will work with the Euclid Consortium in the area of instrument operations coordination. Responsibilities Duties The engineer will work on the survey planning system, which will plan the Euclid Sky Survey and the instrument commanding system, which will be in use during the operational phases of the mission. The service to be provided by the engineer chosen for this position will encompass contributing to the system requirements definition, design, implementation and testing of the survey planning and instrument command generation systems to be used within the Euclid Science Ground Segment. The engineer will develop prototype code for the survey planning and instrument commanding tools. The development will be in done in Java to enable reuse of existing code from other missions located at ESAC. The engineer will work in the Engineering team of the Euclid SOC under the System Engineer. They will interface with the major stakeholders of these systems the Sky Survey Working Group, SOC Calibration and Operations Team, Instrument Operations Teams and Euclid Mission Operations Centre. Qualifications Experience Specific qualification requirements University degree or equivalent in computer science or related fields Basic educational or workacquired knowledge of astronomyphysics and standard numerical methods and techniques would be a strong asset A working understanding of space operations would be highly desirable Essential Skills Specific knowledge is required in the following areas Strong software engineering skills in Java Science mission planning and instrument commanding Spacecraft attitude and orbit and the corresponding standard Flight Dynamics interfaces ECSS standards for software development Desirable Skills In addition knowledge of the following would be beneficial ECSS Packet Utilisation Standard PUS services SCOS2000 Mission Information Base MIB structure Scripting in a Unix environment e.g. Python Qualities Experience in interacting with the science community would be an advantage Must be willing to operate in a team environment and to travel Be selfmotivated and be able to work independently. Good interpersonal and communication skills are an advantage Ability to take initiative and proactively seek solutions to problems would be valued The person should be comfortable in an international working environment and be fluent in English, one of the official languages of ESA Further Details All roles within Telespazio VEGA have a defined closing date, however if a successful engineer is found before the advert expires the role will be closed early.
