GRADE This post is classified in the A2A4 grade band of the Coordinated Organisations salary scale. This position forms part of ESAs Advance Recruitment Scheme which is established to provide appropriate staffing resources when requirements materialise. Appointments are therefore made for an initial duration of two years upon which the selected candidate may be appointed to a permanent post in the Agency. LOCATION ESTEC, Noordwijk The Netherlands. DUTIES The incumbent will be responsible for system engineering tasks in the Systems and Cost Engineering Division. The tasks of the Division are to provide system engineering support to ESA projects, from early phase studies in the Concurrent Engineering Facility CDF to implementation phase, to conduct RD activities in the system engineering domain. The incumbent will report to the Head of System and Concurrent Engineering Section and will be responsible for providing system engineering support to ESA projects and programmes, initially with a focus on the Galileo Evolution Project analysing, defining and specifying mission concepts covering all segments platform, payload, ground through internal and industrial studies participating in ESA concurrent engineering studies and activities in cooperation with the Directorates technical specialists, project teams and industry investigating and promoting the application of system engineering and concurrent engineering methodologies to space projects and to complex system architectures proposing, initiating and managing RD industrial activities related to systems and concurrent engineering supporting standardisation activities in the domain of systems engineering promoting the use of the CDF to support ESA programmes, industry and external customers contributing to systemengineeringrelated infrastructure definition and development initiatives, including implementation of ESA internal project planning and resource management tools contributing to the dissemination of the results of the activities performed and the transfer of knowledge across the Agency providing support to the Directorates activities as required within the field of competence. The incumbent will be part of a technical team, supported by specialists, and will therefore work in close cooperation with the Directorates engineers, with project engineers and with external experts. QUALIFICATIONS Applicants for this post should have a Masters degree or equivalent qualification in engineering or physics. Knowledge and experience in system engineering, concurrent engineering, mission design, feasibility studies and the related informatics tools and infrastructure would be an asset. Candidates should have good interpersonal and communication skills. They should have the ability to work autonomously, effectively and cooperatively in a diverse and international team environment and to define and implement solutions in line with team and individual objectives and project deadlines. In addition, they should have good analytical, organisational and reporting skills, a proactive attitude to solving problems and an interest in innovative technologies. The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these two languages is required together with a working knowledge of the other language. Knowledge of another member state language is an asset. CLOSING DATE The closing date for applications is 30 July 2014.
