GRADE This post is classified in the A2A4 grade band of the Coordinated Organisations salary scale. This position forms part of ESAs Advance Recruitment Scheme which is established to provide appropriate staffing resources when requirements materialise. Appointments are therefore made for an initial duration of two years upon which the selected candidate may be appointed to a permanent post in the Agency. LOCATION ESTEC, Noordwijk The Netherlands. DUTIES The postholder will be assigned to the Clean Space Office. This Office is responsible for identifying and developing activities related to ecodesign, green technologies, debris mitigation and debris remediation, in order to support future space activities while protecting the environment. Under the direct authority of the Head of the Clean Space Office, the duties will include the following conducting system engineering activities for related projects and technology developments providing support to projects in the relevant domains in close cooperation with the Directorates technical specialists, identifying and planning the implementation of RD technology development activities in the domains covered by the Clean Space Office, preparing the related roadmaps and managing the implementation using a multidisciplinary project approach ensuring the coherence of the Offices technology development activities, in coordination with potential users of the technologies, such as ESA programmes and industry analysing, defining and specifying mission concepts covering all segments platform, payload, ground through internal and industrial studies in the domains covered by the Office contributing to the dissemination of the results of the activities performed and the transfer of knowledge across the Agency providing support to the Directorates activities as required within the field of competence. The postholder will work in close cooperation with the Directorates engineers, project engineers and external experts. QUALIFICATIONS Applicants for this post should have a Masters degree or equivalent qualification in an engineering domain and a background in spacecraft systems engineering. Knowledge of the domains covered by the Clean Space Office and of the industrial landscape in those domains would be an asset. Candidates should have good interpersonal and communication skills. They should have the ability to work autonomously, effectively and cooperatively in a diverse and international team environment and to define and implement solutions in line with team and individual objectives and project deadlines. In addition, they should have good analytical, organisational and reporting skills, a proactive attitude to solving problems and an interest in innovative technologies. The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these two languages is required together with a working knowledge of the other language. Knowledge of another member state language is an asset. CLOSING DATE The closing date for applications is 26 September 2014.
